Audacity woes

I need to put some backing tracks into a memory stick for a musical event I’m attending this weekend.

So I’m using Audacity to record mixes from a multitrack – or at least trying to, but currently without success. I’ve plugged the multitrack output into the line in on the laptop and am able to create a new stereo file. But the moment I click the record button, Audacity creates a new mono file under the stereo one, and records onto that instead,

I’ve also tried using Wave Repair (which worked perfectly on the old desktop) but it doesn’t allow me to choose the line in as an input device – the only input option it gives me is ‘Volume’ – WTF is that?!

Can anyone see what I’m doing wrong and how to put it right?

I’m using an Acer laptop running Windows 7, Audacity 1.2.6 and Wave Repair 4.9.2

(I’m almost ready to give up, record them onto a cassette instead, and plug my Sony Walkman into the PA!)

It's unusual for a laptop to have a genuine stereo line in, they're more commonly mic. inputs. Which model is it ?

OK - that one *should* support line in and, if I've found the right chipset, is capable of doing it in stereo too.

Have you switched it over in Control Panel ?

Don't know what I did (I never do with computers!) but it all seems to work now.
