...to select. reverse clunks into gear thats if i can get it in! First 10% of the time goes in smoothly, 40% really stiff and rough and 50% doesnt go in at all.

you guys know whats going on?

done 14k miles. I reckon i could argue for the £50 linkage upgrade washers as part of my warranty for this piece of crap current linkage.

the way it is just now is probably mashing the "gate" in the gaerbox. its probly just like changing gear in a normal car with a ham fist...now what kind of good does that do?!!

cheers

This sounds more like a clutch problem rather than a gearbox issue. It could be any number of potential cluch faults: hydraulics need bleeding/slave or master cylinder faulty/slave cylinder mounting bracket cracked/red hose syndrome/1st motion shaft dry etc etc.

If you're not too proficient with spanners, take it to a specialist or dealer () as soon as possible before it devlops into a gearbox issue as well!

I had an issue with Reverse and 4th, 5th. The gear stick went in ok but out comes the clutch and no gear selected.

If you select the gear and it does not engage check the retaining clip for the cable near the gearbox.

50 pence fixed my problem.

1st and reverse sounds like clutch issue of some kind.

Clutches tend to be outside warranty as they are consumables.

so do you think the clutch could be worn already at 14000miles. I am second owner from 7000 miles. My gear changes are immaculate so cant blame me!

if its not worn and its another clutch problem will that be covered by warranty?

Hello again.

Wear is all respective to use. My S1 is 87,000 miles used every day rain, snow, hail with Original Clutch (getting close now though).

Added to this Original Shocks, second exhuast (standard), original CAT, Second downpipe, Third set of Disks (4th set of pads front 2nd rear), too many rear tyres to remember, third set of front tyres, and all other bits original.

I must say the Exhuast is nearly ready for a change, also the Cat is getting on and the shocks maybe changed in the summer.

When you buy a car from a trader I belive and please all out there correct me, a trader has to give 3 months warranty to a car on all parts. If past this it will be difficult to get the clutch replaced.

As before the more you use it the better, good fun and stops bits disolving.

Me and my big mouth, Hellmans in the water bottel and the Engine on the way to work..

Doh poor old DVO. Dreading the cost. I hope the AA parts & labour covers this.

Sounds shady mate, straight back to dealers for a checkup I reckon.

Could be a number of things from linkage to clutch to gearbox issues. Had this problem with a Mini once and it was the idler gear in the gearbox which was knackered. It was cheaper for me to buy a recon unit that have it stripped and fixed in the end on that one.

Unlucky Gary, but 87k without only consumables to replace is pretty darn good fella!
