Clearly, we should all run BMW franchises.
I always thought they had their marketing sewn up but now I know it for a fact.
My (now aborted) attemps to trade in the Jabba-spec Lexus LS430 for something altogether more Bavarian and rorty have been met with classical indifference.
My contempt for their offish arrogance is almost hemetically sealed now; umpteen e-mails with no responses bar one (with no follow-up call as promised), despite empty promises that I'd be e-mailed back before 4 PM that day...oh the luxury of not having to earn your money by needing punters!
So, barring miracles, I'm left in the middle of Grand Butt-Massage Central and a paltry sub-300 bhp with which to challenge the Erics' uber saloons: like a lamb to the slaughter, methinks.
So a question: anyone know of suspension AND power tweeks to the above mentioned liner that will turn it from suet pudding on wheels to something a little more focused?

Thanking you in anticipation, a very peed off PHer!

Hi Derestrictor.

I find it absolutely incredible that they don't want to sell cars. Not even offering you a derisory trade in.

Are there any BMW dealers owned by groups that also own Lexus franchises, they may be a little more interested in shafting you on the trade in.

DAZ

PS Lexus tweeks, you may be looking to Japan rather than the UK for that sort of thing.

My old man faced a similar barrage of crap from said German dealer franchises (4 separate ones in fact)... so wrote to customer servinces (of all of them, plus Beemer) and told them to stick it.

Bought an Audi instead...

Lexus's are race tuned somewhere in Cologne by the Toyota rally car guys. This was told to me by the local Toyota/Lexus dealer here in germany. Makes sense as all rally toyotas have Cologne numbers K-xx 1234!!!I'm afraid I've no contact at the moment but possibly through Toyota? or I'll try and get something to you when I get back on-line in September.

Sytners famous for BMW also owns Lexus dealerships in Oxford and Leicester.

Lancasters also do BMW and Lexus, but the Lexus dealership is Newcastle.

Derestrictor,

You only mention emails; have you tried (or had better luck) with phone calls?

Not all dealerships may be as supremely talented as those on this forum and so may have trouble with the whole confuser/technocology thang. Some (but not all ) seem to have got the hang of talking.

Apologies if you feel like the mother of one of my parents having been taught how to suck eggs ...

Appreciate the moral support y'all: JMGS4 - that sounds interseting - if I could get mine to at least 400bhp and tauten up the vats of treacle masquerading as springs that's be one helluva car!

Dazren - cheers for your info - I'll be e-mailing interfrastically and will let you know ASAP. Surely a BMW/Lexus dealer can do something for me here?

(BTW, one BMW dealer did make me an offer £36k for my 7 month old, sub-6k miler LS430 that cost me a rat's nad short of £55k? My reaction? Well, along the lines of 'I rather think not!')

As I said, Cologne, I was speaking to them about the IS 300 Sportcross but wanted a stick not an auto and a bit harder suspension, they said Cologne could/would do it. LS 420 ? dont know.........

Derestrictor,

My sympathies dear fellow, tinged with the friendliest mite of "I told you so". I've no idea of your age, but I couldn't help but think that if a 31 year old can go into a dealer and be treated with utter contempt and derision, you might have faired a little better than I did. It seems not. Very sad.

Does it have to be a Bimmer ? You could plump for an Alpina (as seen in this month's EVO), which looks like a bit more of a Q car than the M5 - less of the "4 exhausts means more-ness" of the M5.

Additionally, it is ahem, pardon the pun, de-restricted, so 177mph here we come !

It's a shame the new E Class isn't officially released yet, otherwise I'd have rather biasedly advocated either an E500 or the new E55 AMG. Certainly each article I've read has concluded that it rather easily p1sses over the current 5 series, which is also due for replacement.

I wish you well, whatever you do.

Oh dear, I think my testicles are about to be ruffled by somebody to whom I pledged my troth.

Dazren, you're a mind reader, mate: one of the dealers you suggested are talking sensible-ish at the momemt on a virtually brand new M5 with all the toys and under 10k on the clock...

I'm beginning to get that strange wobbly feeling that I do when I feel 'the kill' looming on a car deal that I really shouldn't be doing and that everyone I know will sigh at with exasperation because yet another car that 'was going to be with me for at least 10 years' is being shown the exit signs...

I'm dead meat!

Ok gents, help me out quick time, if you can.

The original deal I was looking at seemed ok but I miscalculated somewhat and realised I was actually £15k over budget (don't ask!).

So, bottom line is this; I'm looking at a '99 model with the essential sat-nav with 35k miles for £35k in what's called 'imola red.' Guy at Sytners reckons it's 100% pukka - I'm buying blind here guys - should I do it? Aaaaaaaaaaargh!

What about their V plate one in Silverstone for the same price, less miles (OK it hasn't got sat nav, but it is a better colour).

Imola red is the "proper" red not some metallic thing with a hint of orange. Will look good, but not sure about the red interior.

BUT

Downgrade the missus car to a Rover Kensington. Take the cash and upgrade to the Y reg M5 in Lemans Blue at £40,850.

Or if you're not sure about the red go with the Silverstone one with less mileage, then spend a £1k on a becker din sized CD/GPS head unit, if sat nav is so important. (Mini TV screen Satnav can have an effect on resale, particularly the latest S class mercs, not sure about M5s)

DAZ

Now YOU make the decision without having one of us to blame...

Steve thanks for the suggestion.

But it's..it's..an M5 and I can have it..now!
No! I HATE this feeling; I can sniff those 400 ponies already - it's a mission and I'm on it and somehow, someway, fruition of that urge is ineviatble.
Bloody cars! Why couldn't I have been into skiing or yoghurt research. Damn, blast & double drat. Mutley!!!
The problem here is that I've got the bit 'twixt the teeth and I'm in 'Go' mode: maybe I should listen to Quentin and wait...wait...wait...there'll be another...yes there will...don't panic...uurgh!
