Swapping my Evo 7 for a Monaro
Discussion
Hi all, this is my first post so please go easy on me.
I currently have a 2001 Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 7 and am looking to trade it in for a 2005 Monaro (354bhp).
Can anybody give me any pointers on what to look out for and what dealers to avoid?
Any help would be much appreciated... .Oh and if anyone wants to buy my car then here's a nice link to it

Vauxhall dealers don't have a good reputation so choose your dealer carefully. That's the problem selling an enthusiast car through Astras R'Us. I took my Camaro Z28 to a Chevy/Vauxhall dealer in Bristol and all they did was charge too much...way too much.
I think the stock Monaro is 329bhp and the VXR 382bhp or thereabouts. What made you choose the Monaro instead of the Evo?

Hi Chaps- I recently bought an 04 CV8 from Bristol nice people and willing to do a deal but I knew more about 05 car than they seemingly did - I found this site after my first test drive. They seem to know what vauxhall tell them and thats it.
Had a remap and exhaust from Picador and they were helpful, very knowledgable, enthusiastic....and willing to negotiate! They are most definately aware of the HSV world and what is on offer....I am in no way connected other than a happy customer.

The reason for swapping is that the Evo 7 is coming up to be 4 years old and no doubt loads will start to go wrong with it soon.
I know they are 2 totally different cars but I am almost ashamed to get in the Evo each day knowing that every burberry clad oaf will be waving at me on my journey...
Ordered a Black 05 Monaro at lunchtime, should be with me in a couple of weeks
Can't wait !!!

Nice one!!! I loved the Evo 8 that a mate had, in the real world one of the fastest point to point cars there is. You'll certainly find the lower reving Monaro much more relaxing to live with though and with some modifications even faster in a straight line, particulary over 100mph (where legal of course!).
Having owned HSV's for 4.5 years,I can highly reccomend Mark at Linden SV (see links)for servicing/modifications. I don't know any mechanic in the U.K with more experience of working on Holdens/HSV.

Yup, it just seemed an odd transition. I have to say that I came from a frenetic R5 GT Turbo to a Corvette and have stuck with V8's ever since not only for the supremely effortless torque but their character and low maintenance costs. In the real world, they're also plenty fast enough to blow away most Scoobs with fat torque available at the drop of a hat. They are just so easy to live with and very, very likeable.
Mind you, I've just bought a Civic Type R to balance the Z06 and Z28. Monaro isn't really my thing but I can see why people buy them.

I would be interested to find out why people are buying the Monaro. I wonder what percentage are buying it because it is a V8, or it is because it is a coupe and whether a 4 door (we know it of course as a commodore) was avaliable, how many people would buy it instead.... Although the UK seems to be sold on 2 door cars.

Burbury clad oaf made me laugh, so did this taken from Yahoo:
'Chav' effect harms car values
Chav accessories can knock hundreds of pounds off the value of a car.
Dog and smoke damage together with the effects of accidents could wipe as much as 15 per cent off vehicle values, research from used car company Network Q found.
But accessories installed by 'Chavs' - the much-derided new tasteless, poorly-educated underclass - can also reduce a car's value. Such "Chavtomisation", including Burberry-style seat covers, could cost a new owner up to £2,000 to put right, said Network Q.
