DADS PROTEST NEAR NO 10

Three Fathers 4 Justice campaigners are staging a high profile protest on the corner of Downing Street.

The three, dressed as Batman, Robin and Captain America are perched on a wall of the Foreign Office building.

They reached their perch by placing a ladder against the wall of the building, which is almost opposite the Cenotaph in Whitehall.

A police officer was at a nearby window of the Foreign Office trying to talk to the protestors who were perched above the heavy duty security gates which protect Downing Street from possible terrorist attack.

The protesters had unfurled a banner declaring: "Access denied. Don't let Labour stop you being a Superdad."

The protest immediately attracted a considerable audience of police officers and members of the public who were looking on, although there was no immediate effort to stop traffic flowing along Whitehall.

The campaign group said the man behind the Batman mask is Jason Hatch, who also climbed onto a ledge at Buckingham Palace.

It is another embarassing security breach carried out by the group, which is campaigning for the rights of fathers for access to their children.

The street is one of the most policed areas of the country yet the protesters managed to breach security with apparent

They are fast becoming a stupid sideshow. Is anybody interested in their grievance anymore?

That's the whole point. They are a stupid sideshow that's attracting attention to their cause so that the more serious groups get listened to.

Yes, I am and I have my kids half the time. They have bought the issue of mothers witholding access to kids to the debating table, something that no-one else has managed to before.

While their methods are .... different, they have been very effective

I agree. If men witheld their kids from their mothers all Hell would be let loose. Many fathers get a real rough deal in my view. The strength of feeling a good Dad will have for his kid/s is easily as much as any Mum. Equally, it can't do the kids any good if their mother doesn't give them access to their father. Good luck to those blokes I say. What they're doing is harmless, yet effective.

Captain America? I thought is was Woody Woodpecker.

Good for them though. Long may they continue to draw awareness to this highly emotive issue.

There is a perception, right or wrong that a mother is going to be a better parent, they are trying to change this view.

Not helped by blokes getting girls pregnant and them buggering off of course.

With the height they're at, and with all those wrought iron gates below, they really should have some kind of fall arrest system in place, a simple climbing harness on a long sling round that marble pillar would suffice....and I hope they wrapped up nice and warm!

Bit of a funny time to do it, not much press impact on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

What about Spiderman's web to catch them if they fall?

You'll probably find that they have jobs. Hence Sunday. Plus if you want people to watch it on tv you have to do it when people are not at work.

Anyway I think they are doing a good job of keeping an important issue in the public eye....

They very often do, but there is a huge amount of stigma attatched to women who don't have access to their children, there are very few articles regarding this but I did find this one for your perusal http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4250397.stm

Far from being harmless it can be damaging, as FFJ will support those fathers who are on bail pending trial for offences against both the mother and the children. Not all relationships are good ones, the whole backbone behind the family court system is to try and establish the facts, this takes time, not railroading.

Obviously if the father or mother are a danger to the kids, then that's another matter entirely. What these blokes are protesting against is the fact that some mothers' are ignoring fathers' access rights (which have been agreed in law) and the blokes have no legally effective recource. That is plain wrong - surely you can see that!

The same laws apply to both Mothers and Fathers, families would have been better served by a campaign for families for justice, which needs to look at the Family court system and how slow, expensive and ineffective it is.

Often the wishes of the children are not considered until over a year into the proceedings.

FFJ are merely asking for equality. Personally I don't see how anyone can oppose what they are after.

There is the potential for good and bad in both sexes. They are not argueing for those that commit wrongs to have additional rights, merely for fathers to have the rights they have been denied for years.

Equality, nothing more, nothing less.

From what I've seen, the system is loaded towards fathers and giving them every opportunity to be heard and fulfill their obligations.

Even when Fathers decide to provide no financial security for their children they are still allowed access, they are not required to prove the are good fathers providing stable loving homes, whereas Mothers are.

If a Father chooses to withhold access for a Mother their is no redress either.

Fathers are given custody of their children despite what the media would lead you to believe.Including those Fathers who are no longer resident in the UK and choose to remove their children from UK jurisdiction.

I know a good few who struggle to gain reasonable access to their kids. The system is currently loaded in favour of the mother. If it wasn't, FFJ simply wouldn't be in existence. Can you see them going to all this trouble and risking jail if they had reasonable access?

While some mothers are ok, some are not and that's when the law comes down heavily on their side. Like I said, equality, nothing more.
