lotus do a lot of work for other manufacters aswell it may be the road car division but it could just aswell be the engineering side of things developing a new engine for someone else. lotus have always been very tight lipped regarding new products/consultancy work 6months ago there was no upgrades planed for the exige/elise now we have a 240r an prolly a
240 upgrade for existing cars in a littel while

Sounds to me like the Esprit replacement. It seems to be generally accepted that Lotus are working on it ATM. There is an interesting discussion here...

www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=119277&f=14&h=0&hw=bmw

... about possible powerplants. The consensus appeared to be that it will use a BMW V8, presumably the same as that in the Morgan Aero 8. Personally, I would have thought Toyota would be the preferred option given the success of their motors in the Elise, but you never know.

beaten to it
I'd go out on a limb here and predict the Lotus range as ending up with the Toyota-powered Elise/Exige, the GT car packing a Toyota or GM V6 and the BMW turbo V8-powered Esprit.

Can't wait! Any ETA on the Esprit replacement? I want to put down a deposit

yes - I heard that the new Esprit was getting the outgoing 400bhp BMW V8 out of the M5 ...didnt know they were sticking a couple of blowers on it though ....now a lightweight 500bhp+ Esprit would be cool....well worth saving up for !

I reckon they'd go for a v6 TT if possible. The v8 would be too heavy, and would probably develop more power than is necessary.

yeah i heard they were considering a v6 to but i think the bmw v8 is the current favourite to go in its been mooted as the engine there gonna use for a while has an output around what lotus would want 400+ an has been used by morgan already

The car will be more F360/F430 (except price) than Noble (all IMHO of course!)

Ah well depends which car we are talking about then. The current info given is that one will be 80k ish and another more 55k ish. I was guessing v6 TT in the latter. If we are talking about the former with the bmw engine, thats also consistent with the rumours.

Hope they make some nice new toys for us all. Er and that I'm wealthy enough to enjoy them!
