Window Tinting - Recommendations

Looking for a decent reputable company to fit some tints to my new car. Looking for something 30%-ish, which reflects the heat.

Any recommendation?

I think Shirt was asking about this a few months ago and mentioning ceramic tints? I cannot find the posts now.

Could do with some of this too.

I've seen some subtly mirrored tints which (dare I say it) actually look quite cool. I'm not talking full on mirrored aviator look as found on badly resprayed BMWs circa 2002; rather a very slight 'chroming' of the windows.

Alternatively, I might just be turning into a chav.

EDIT: It's the V-Kool dealer, next to Tom & Serg.

I'm not looking for mirror type, but just something to keep the heat out.

If the car is registered to a company then you are not allowed window tints but if the car is owned personally you can tint the windows.

Sometimes the Emirate garages have promotions on (I had a clear film fitted to the windscreen for free). They used to use 3M or V-Cool.

V cool gives that slightly mirrored effect. I don't like it personally but it came free on my wife's Toureg. I like 3m the best. Great value and quality. Just remember to use some alcohol rub to remove the 3m signs all over the tint..I thought I had the last bit of a roll when they did my car. The guys at the tinting shop found my reaction pretty funny

from my research [trying to insulate a plastic bathtub masquerading as a vehicle] 3m crystalline is supposed to be the daddy. ceramic tints have better heat rejection than metallic and don't have the reflective look you mention. costs a lot more mind you. but yeah, you need to rub the annoying logo off.

you want cr70 for legality. for me though there no point doing it if i cant do the screen which might not be possible due to the curvature. i am going to try a cheeky cr90 post rego.

for fitting i guess any 3m dealer although i would prefer to go to a vehicle wrapper rather than have it done in a mall car park.

This is from AGE Films, who are a 3M authorized dealer here. This is to fit a 2-door coupe:-


Option 1: The top of the line is 'Crystalline' series, which is arguably the most high-tech, high performance film available in the market(80% Heat rejection), is applied on the front windshield (Full) cost AED 950.00 and a darker version (Maximum 30% is allowed as per RTA directives)on the sides and back costs AED 2,200.00 with a five-year 3M international warranty. (Full Crystalline package AED. 2,500.00)

Option 2: Second in line is called 'Color Stable' or CS series (30%-50%-70% Shades of DARK), has 50% Heat Rejection & comes in three hues or VLT (Darkness), also carries a five-year warranty and costs AED 900.00 for the sides and back including a visor strip of about 7-8 inches for the front windshield.

Option 3: FX series (30%-50%-70% Shades of DARK) is the entry level version for AED 550.00 on the sides & back with 30% heat rejection and a two-year warranty. The visor strip for the front windshield is optional.

Option 4: You may consider Crystalline-70 (clear film) on the front windshield and CS 35 on the sides and back for AED 1,650.00 which is a good value for your money as an alternate to option #1 with performance levels almost as efficient.

It takes about one hour to do options 1 & 4 and 45 minutes for the other two.

I'll drop by their workshop and have a look at other customers cars before I decide.

LOL. I have these on my Landrover and never thought you could remove them! off to get some alcohol rub

They're talking bks with their figures. Claiming such high heat rejection would have nasa knocking. You will get total IR block, very high UV block but even the really dark ones can't claim energy rejection values even half of that.

Cr70 as clear? That is 70% light transmission / 30% block which is max legal limit for the sides and back. Unless your wardrobe consists of mainly dish dasha then you can't pull that off up front

Check the link above then have a Google, most report a drop in cabin temps with crystalline applied. If you go for it please report your experience. I know who will be doing mine (wrapping co who does the zrt honda and did an amazing colour change on jons fiat coupe) but would be handy to compare.

Yeh I'd already read some of the 3M bumf earlier. Shop's figures to seem a little OTT!

CR70 is what i'd be looking at and agree the screen needs doing as well to gain some benefit from it all.. Not sure they can do it on an 911, but will ask.

i have seen the elise screen is possible, which is more deeply curved than a 911.

Here we go chaps. I had the 3M Crystalline tints fitted this morning. 30% on the side and rear (CR70), 10% on the front (CR90). Straight away its far cooler inside. I left the car outside for a hour earlier and the difference is apparent.

don't be surprised if it fails next inspection, technically no allowed anything on the front these days.

if its providing a noticeable difference in cabin temp then its worth it even if you have to redo the screen each year. tasjeel is always hit and miss what you can get away with and i do think you get a bit more leeway if you have a premium car and the work is clearly good quality.

My thoughts as well. Another 11 months before the next inspection. So hopefully get my monies worth out of it.

Am I right in thinking at least year one your can redo the registration online?

Nissan are tinting my Z for me and I initially said no to the front screen, seems stupid to refuse in hindsight, they're doing the initial registration and if the above is true the rta won't see it for 2 years after that.

Edit - Nissan won't do the front screen because of the rta, did you use age in the end Rich?

That is correct. I just insured, paid fines and re-registered the Charger all from the comfort of home other month. No need to go anywhere, other than collect your replacement card.

Just an update on this. My 911 passed its RTA inspection this morning with said tints above (and 10% on the windscreen). No questions asked.

Ah Ha,..! I was wondering what the weird film on the windscreen of the GTS was and why I didn't need sunglasses most of the time..!

The film has gone all bubbly and needs replacing as it was originally put on when the Porker was specced in 09, and I was wondering where to get it done instead of going back to Al Nabooda after selling a kidney.

It is on the To Do list once I have recovered from putting on new tyres all round.

Christ, the TVRs cost less than this does
