I've never been keen on watches to be honest for men. Seems like men trying to be girls showing off their wealth but putting it on the wrist rather than than the ear lobes or neck or finger. I always thought spending all that money on wrist jewelry was a waste of money real men should be putting towards a car. Even if it meant buying an old VW Golf and fitting track day tyres and having a hoon.

However I have changed my tune when I saw a Sekonda come up recently on ebay. One that Ronnie Barker wore in 1978 when I was 10 years old!

Ok, it doesn't tell the time as it's broken. But when does a watch have to to tell the time nowadays when you have so many things that can? Instead it just looks impossibly cool from those days of computers with silicon chips as big as your fist.

All that writing. AND 4, I REPEAT, 4 buttons to press. None of which work. But it is still 4 buttons 70's style. Reminds me of my first Sony CD player, the magnificent CDP915E , with loads of buttons.

Them were the days. Finally I have found my ideal wrist jewelry.

biggrin

PS Cost me less than a tenner so money left over for a slap up fish and chip supper. bowtie

Technically, what you have there, is a bracelet. Your post should have gone here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Ha! I had one of those Sony CD players, too!

Now....which room did I leave it in....I am sure it was around here somewhere...

Agreed what a strange post, personally I buy a watch so I know what time it is and as with everything else in the world it is up to the individual how much they want to spend.

It reads to me as him just trying to excuse his poverty.

No need for that, Bayleaf.

Besides, the bloke is called Clive. Money is the least of his problems.

I had one of those way back when!
Bought it in Sydney in about 1983 or so.

Personally I can't see the point in wearing a watch that doesn't work. For me thats the point of a watch. A piece of fine engineering crafted to be aesthetically pleasing.

I have one of those, in gold, and it still works including the green back-light cool

Exactly...

Personally, I don't wear pure jewellery at all (not even a wedding ring), so a bracelet that looks like a broken watch has no appeal to me, but if the OP likes it, that's fine.

Disagree. I think deliberately wearing a broken watch is insane.
