Fitting CTEK comfort connect cigarette socket

Guys,
I was wondering if anyone could give me a quick bit of advice. I have bought a CTEK batter conditioner and also a CTEK comfort connect cigarette socket for my 2007 Supersport. The plan is to have this installed behind the dash so that when I am using the car I can charge iPhone etc but when it’s in the garage I can just unplug it behind the dash and plug the cable into the conditioner.




To do this I therefore need to run the CTEK extension lead directly from the battery through to behind the dash. To keep this neat I didn’t necessarily want to drill through the scuttle and therefore I wondered if there was any other way to thread it through? I can see a large number of cables are threaded through in front of the gear stick but unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be enough room to fit the cable as I need a hole which is roughly the size of a 20p coin to fit the connecter and wire through.

Any help would be really appreciated and hopefully I am just being stupid and there is an obvious way?

Is there anything to stop you cutting the CTEK cables, feeding the bare wires through and then rejoining them with a chocolate block or something similar, or soldering them together again?

Good idea! Is it easy to see where the wiring would come out in the transition tunnel? I may be able to get access to a ramp which would make it easier if I need to get under the car.

If you are under the dash, why not use the positive feed going to the fuse box. One of these is normally wired for the 12v power socket on newer cars - if not you can always run a single positive lead to the battery and ground out on a bolt on the chassis (the windscreen motor is a good place).

As an alternative solution, I bought one of these adapters:

I then wired this double 12V socket:

Direct to the battery with an inline fuse holder.

That way there are two solid mounted 12v sockets available for charging phone/satnav, and the Ctek cable can be can be left in the garage attached to the unit.

Alternative idea for you. How about fitting a permanent 12v socket into the car. You can use that whilst on the move to charge what you like. You then buy the cigarette lighter extension from CTEK which you simply plug into the socket and attach to your CTEK at the other end.

That's what I've done and it does work well.

Then just buy your choice of 12v socket online, mount it somewhere under the dash and leave it permanently wired to the battery with an inline fuse.
