Last Friday I followed a silver Clio V6 down the A30 towards Hook (nr. M3 J5)
The car had the registration V6 TWR

Does anyone know if this is a factory car? (Tom Walkinshaw's TWR Engineering make the car, I believe)

I think TWR were involved in the developement of the car. I have also heard they were working on a power upgrade. Having driven a standard one it definitely needs more oomph, if only to kick the 172 in the nuts.

Apparantley TWR made the cars in Sweden but Renault (and the press) were all rather unimpressed so they are building the facelifted one themselves in the old Alpine factory in Dieppe, and it promises to be much better.

TWR have had a hand in some pretty suspect roadcars IIRC

Early XJ6R
XJRS 6.0
Volvo C70

None of them have been renowned for their handling I don't think...

XJR15...? What a dog that was. Might as well have mounted the V12 on the bootlid the CofG was so high...! massive roll and lift-off oversteer, the works...

Looked and sounded wicked though

Widely regarded as the worst supercar ever made.

Daz,

What did you think of the Clio V6? I have read loads about them and seen one, but only stationary. What are they really like to drive?

Yes, they were involved in the development of the car. They did a lot of the engineering to sort out the engine location, balance and packaging. Then gave it back to Renault to manufacture. The reviews didnt necessarily praise the car though. Not much faster than the 172 and set-up on the soft side (with way too much tail-happy handling).

Still, the new updated one with more power and better suspension should be a corker.

Cheers,

Paul

Great road holding, but I felt the chassis could have handled a lot more power. The turning circle on them is truely appaling. Still a lot of fun though, but would I stick £25k into one? No.

So returning to the original question, do people reckon "V6 TWR" is
a) owned by TWR
b) a customer car and the plate bought by an enthusiast in recognition of TWR's involvement
c) owned by Thomas William Richardson / Timothy Wayne Rodgers / someone with the initials TWR
d) other (please specify)

At a guess option (b).
