I've been told the lead times on the Gen 2 Turbo S are lengthening considerably, so assuming i decide this is the car for me i may have to place my order within the next few weeks rather than the Autumn which was initially indicated. This then throws up the old gem of what options? I'm intending to keep the spec as minimal as possible as have never been into trinkets & shelling out thousands of ££'s on the little add ons, however i've also never owned any Porsche, let alone a 911 so may need a little guidance. So far my spec looks like this:

991 Gen 2 Turbo S
Sapphire Blue Metallic
20" Turbo S centre locking wheels
Graphite Blue/Crayon 2 Tone Leather
Adaptive Sports seats Plus (18-way electric)
Deletion of model designation
LED main headlights in black including Porsche DynamicLight System Plus (PDLS+)
Privacy glass (rear side windows & rear window)
HomeLink (garage door opener)
Heated multifunction steering wheel
Seat heating

That's the spec. The 2 items i'm unsure on (along with any others suggested) are the:

Power steering plus
Burmester High-End Surround-Sound System

As daft as it sounds (excuse the pun) i do like listening to music in the car as with kids etc. it's the only place i get to do it & some of my drives will be lengthy. That said i've never paid more than about £800 for a Music System upgrade as per the HK system in my M5. Most of the music i listen to is in the Dance music genre so the question is how much better is the Burmester system over the standard Bose & is it worth the £2k? The demo car i'm having for the weekend in a couple of weeks i believe has the standard Bose system & i'll try to get a listen of the Burmester before ordering, but real world thoughts & experiences would be useful?

Also Power Steering plus, any real world advantage to it? It's only £179 but if pointless then no point spending that as it's 2 tanks of fuel.

Lastly, any options i'm missing that are seen as a must have on a 911? I'd be keeping the car for 3yrs & covering around £45k miles. Residual values unless certain options enhance this greatly are of interest as i'd be acquiring using PCP. I recall on some cars you can select certain options that cost next to nothing as they push the residuals up significantly, however i've a feeling Porsche don't do that & just set a standard car residual thus making any options somewhat more expensive.

Many thanks in advance.

Anybody?

May be put in a position i need to place the my order in the next couple of weeks (albeit i can change the spec for a few months after) but ideally i'd like to order & spec so can then forget about the decision process & just look forward to the car arriving early next year.

Having owned mainly Audi's & BMW's over the years, i've no idea what's considered to be must have/need options on the 991.

Thanks in advance.

Rear side air intakes painted? This does not appear to do much on the configurator but I would like the intakes in body colour to hide them a bit. Aerokit is nice but a bit pricey.

My recommendation would be to spec the car for what you want, not for residuals, as unless your going to be choosing some weird colour combinations, it probably won't make much difference, and it's hard to predict what the next owner will be looking for.

Having said that:
In the past I'd have said to skip the heated multi-function steering wheel, as that gave you 'buttons' rather than paddles for changing gear, but I think that's no longer the case for the new style wheel.

Not sure you'll really benefit from an expensive sound system - standard will be fine!

Skip the power steering plus.

First off congrats I know someone who has one and its a brilliant car so all the best with it. I am quite a keen music fan (not purely in the sense of in car listening) so all i would say on a personal level is have a look at Burmester hifi. I am a pretty big hifi fan and Burmester in terms of what they build and make leaves Bose for dead. Their CD players alone are last time I looked in excess of £10,000. Whether you believe or not in terms of inside a car it is worth it remains your choice of course I am just talking on the level of what they do.

The burmester system is fantastic , it's an absolute must . The sound is incomparable to the Bose , especially with higher quality inputs . It's a wonderful thing

I'm personally not keen on the power steering plus and it's completely unnecessary Imv.

Power steering plus - I went without and don't find the steering to be heavy at all. Feels just as you would expect. I believe that PSP would be a retrograde step. Anyway, it can be added and deleted after delivery (at a cost of course) as it's just a software change.

Burmester v Bose. I spent a couple of hours over 2 weekends trying both systems out in GTS and Turbo S coupes. Source was iPod / iPhone with media at 320 kbs (or whatever the units are). I couldn't tell the difference. Perhaps my ears are old (they are clean before you ask). I really wanted to get the Burm based on Burm's activity in the HiFi world but was disappointed that I couldn't notice any improved performace. CDs may have produced more revealing results but I never use these in the car.

All of the above relates to late 2015 991.1. As you're spending a good few bucks, it'd be worthwhile spending the time and trouble to get try out the options for yourself.

Was thinking Carbon as that works well to break the Blue leather & Silver leather (i think).

Never even considered that so good call. Would it make such a difference though on a fairly dark body colour? Can see the point on silver or white as the black intakes could be a bit loud but mid/dark blue i thought the black looked ok but to be honest i didn't try the body coloured option.

Agree that the Aerokit does look good but as you say it's pricey & as such not a consideration.

I agree, however like most cars i'd assume some options on a 991 are seen as essential or at least desirable. The ones for my pleasure i'm fairly sure on (still need to test a few) but wanted to be sure i wasn't missing any must haves.

The Heated wheel also offers up the function buttons that the non doesn't. Both have the new mode select wheel though.

I got mine last week.. Epic car, you will love it.

I ticked more or less every option.... Apart from power steering plus and B&W. Drove test car with Bose and B&W, couldn't hear the diff so thought waste of money. Power steering plus is awful.

I think that the most of the options desired by others will provide you will a smaller loss (residual versus price paid) rather than a net gain!

I have never read a review of any car ever, where the review was complimentary about power steering plus type systems, ie artificially variable assistance.

In some they have said it ruins the car (Huracan and fast Audis spring to mind)

So avoid like the plague IMHO

Power steering plus is only variable assistance at low speed, for parking and low speed city use. I have it on my 991.1 and it's absolutely fine...

Seriously I couldn't hear the diff in a 911... Agree in Cayenne you should tick B&W, but waste of money in the smaller 911 cabin. Bose is very good there. To me it was not a cost saving thing, but I don't wanna pay for options that doesn't add value. B&W in a 911 is a complete waste imv.

On a slightly different note, I have ordered a 991 2S Gen 2 Cab , delivery expected next month and I have to firm up once and for all on the spec by tomorrow latest. I've had six 911s in the past, a 964, 993, 996, 997:1, 997:2 and currently a 991. The last 2 have been PDKs which I have been delighted with (although I had to have new gearbox on the 997 - covered by warranty thank the lord). I was all set to get PDK on the new one but had the opportunity to drive both a manual and PDK at Silverstone last week and the Manual on the Gen 2 is really, really nice. I'm swithering. Any input or advice before I make my final decision?

Cheers

Go manual! It's supposed to be great on the 991.2...

Although with a Turbo, it doesn't really matter what gear you are in... If only the 991.1 Manual was a nice 'box because natural aspiration and a manual really makes sense...
