Just had an odd conversation with a AD rolex shop in Tenerife,a mate of mine is looking at getting a GMT 2 master (the one with the blue/black bezel, and im popping over there in a few weeks, now i thought that the prices over there were cheaper? I have bought a few Rolex and Panerai in the past and they were cheaper, but i was told the price would be £6500 which is £550 more than you can get one here?? Is it because of the Euro/pound rate? And before anyone says it i know they are making over list price at the mo but AD arnt allow to sell for over list price??

I don't know about Tenerife specifically but Europe has seen 1 or 2 price hikes plus the euro has gone from 1.44 to 1.28 over the last 6 months

That model is available from ADs via waiting lists - it's months not years. Having said that, a couple have remarked on mine and said that supply has really slowed down

Great watch, very happy with mine and really like the gmt 2 in general, feels solid but isn't too big

They just don't give good deals over, tbh. I was there a few times, including last year in GC and the watch shops didn't give a UK tax free equivalent price. I could get cheaper else where.

Just back from Lanzarote - nothing seemed any cheaper (Breitling, Rolex, Omega, etc.) - even allowing for exchange rate movements over last few months

Best place I've found is Heathrow airport. You have to fly out to Geneva or somewhere non EU.
Save the vat but then the is the issue of the vat when you return.

How does that actually work? I always thought you could buy whatever you wanted vat free at the airport. Your post suggests it's ok buying it but vat should be paid on return. I suppose logically you would be liable?

It isn't actually VAT free is it - I think they discount the gross price by an amount equivalent to the VAT (or something)?

Are they? I've seen these in shop windows so I'm not sure why anyone would pay a premium.

Surely if you bought a watch vat free on your departure whos going to question any vat/tax duty when you return with the watch on your wrist.???

True it is unlikely, but if you don't declare, that's tax evasion. if caught the watch will be confiscated and you could be prosecuted, as well as being put on the lookout list (or whatever it's called)

Yeah they are, have a look on Watchfinders site, they are over list! But I agree with you,I got my pal one in the uk and only had to wait a couple weeks for it.But I suppose if you have more money than sense you won't mind paying over the odds! Lol

They won't be from ADs, there are no official channels where you can buy Rolex online
