An embarrassing moment on Saturday as I contrived to stall the Tuscan while sitting in a que of traffic in an outside filter lane; the bigger issue was the car would not restart and I had to get pushed across the oncoming road and into a bus stop.

The restart issue was that the battery seemed not to have enough power to turn the car over sufficiently for it to fire; yet it had only been disconnected from the trickle charger that morning and had stopped/started no problem on a number of earlier occasions while shopping in Edinburgh. As soon as I got the jump leads connected it fired instantly.

I have noticed before that when the car is hot the initial turn over can sometimes be laboured, are there hot start issues with these cars?

The car stopped/started fine when I got home.

Thanks

Richard

Bad earths. Mine had a hot restart issue, especially having sat in traffic. Removed and cleaned all earths and haven't had the issue since.

Agree bad earth, easy to check get a jump lead connect it to a good chassis earth, then a bolt on the engine and see if it starts.
If it does you have found the problem, I had this on an MGB, one of the terminals was getting hot, and slow cranking of the engine like the battery was dead.
It took me a new battery to find out it was just an earth lead left off the gearbox during an engine refit.

If this happens predominately when hot, then you may have the hot start issue, basically the starter motor is giving up. Check all the leads as recommended above but be prepared to fit a new starter. Easy job, see parts wiki, I opted for the BMW M5 E34 (1.7KW) and what a difference. Also from an earlier topic I did, don't leave this issue too long as it may effect your alarm

And make sure that your batterie is in very good condition.
I have installed a Exide batterie, has much more power for cranking, no further issues.

If the Speed six is hot in traffic also starter and batterie gets hot, so the power of the starter also is low due to
the higher resistance of all elect. windings.
Furtheron the compression of engine is better and a bit higher with hot engine, i have had same starting problems even with bigger starter, this problem has sometimes happened also with hot engine.
With exide batterie all is best!

Thanks for the replies, will check over the cabling at the weekend. Did try starting tonight, fired up but did seem a tad lazy.

Well removed the starter motor and had it checked and refurbed, also got the battery checked and ended up replacing that as well.

All refitted on Friday night and now turning over super fast and firing instantly.

Happy days....
