Took the RS for a 1,000 mile oil and filter change today. Before any of you say that it is not necessary it's what I like to do. Anyway whilst there Alex the ever helpful service advisor asked if I would like the air in the tyres replaced with Nitrogen. They now have a new machine to install it. The benefits are that it is lighter plus will not expand and contract like air. The only other car that I know has the same fitment is the Nissan GTR. Any other opinions?

Been here, don't bother.... the RS rubber likes to get hot in order to work at its best. With nitrogen whilst you will get a more stable PSI, you don't get the heat transfer into the rubber...Just dial em down a few times and you will be fine.Don't forget to put the PSI back up when you leave the track, have ruined a new set of Cups on my991 GT3, ie cracked the tyre wall, by forgetting to do this.
air is 78% nitrogen only 1% water vapor !!!
tyres which are filled with nitrogen will need to be bleed/purged 6 or 7 times to weed out the last 22% of other gas's (more important 1% water vapor), better machines do this over a time period ie set it up, let it recycle purge the tyres come back in 10 minutes job done x 4 of course. not to 100% nitrogen though many will pass at 93/95% !
the next issue is You will still see pressure change with nitrogen it's a gas it will expand still ! just less of a change.
Now if you don't own a machine with you which can cycle nitrogen in your own tyre, at your next track day you will still have to let air out the tyre when hot, but now you are screwed going home having to add air back in which will be only 78% nitrogen, game over.
the last question is how good are these machine at clearing out 1% water vapor ? as stated above you will be lucky to get a 95% nitrogen fill anyway !

And for non-track use..?tyres which are filled with nitrogen will need to be bleed/purged 6 or 7 times to weed out the last 22% of other gas's (more important 1% water vapor), better machines do this over a time period ie set it up, let it recycle purge the tyres come back in 10 minutes job done x 4 of course. not to 100% nitrogen though many will pass at 93/95% !

Please don't.Lighter? Google the difference but you will need your reading glasses as it is tiny.
Doesn't expand like air? Well not exactly like air no, but not far off.
Doesn't contract? b
ks.Would sir like GAP insurance, tyre cover and the exterior and interior treated with special stuff too?
It is just their latest add on.
Call me a cynic, but....

If you ignore the science, it seems great.
Short, and precisely to the point.Tell him he can fill them with anything as long as it costs the same as air.
The properties of nitrogen, of which regular air is already made up of nearly 8/10ths, are very similar to those of oxygen, the remaining 2/10ths.
Even if comparing a 100% oxygen fill to a 100% nitrogen fill there would not be any practical difference, let alone dividing that effect by 5 (one fifth replacement only).
Tried it years ago in a 7.1 RS..dealer in Canada has been doing it forever but the difference in any discernible sense was zero so I did not bother with it after that. Maybe for people who are actually racing there may be some difference, but i think there are much bigger benefits from the boring stuff, such as improving skills, losing weight if necessary, setting up the car properly for track and so on. Maybe after all of those options have been exhausted there is some small benefit.
