Checking Tag Heuer authenticity

Is there a way of confirming the authenticity of a Tag Carrera if I have the serial number?

I'm asking because I am considering the purchase of a Carrera that is outside of the UK and not practical to go and view. I'm therefore trying to establish its authenticity and thought maybe if I could check the serial number that would be one method for achieving this.

Any other suggestions as to how I could confirm it's genuine?

My experience with TAG's:

Doesn't work/faulty: Genuine

Everything works as it should: Fake

I'd get detailed pictures of the front and rear, ask for the papers (including manuals. Have you tried posting on Watchuseek or similar and asking on there?
