Council serve noise nuisance order on Castle Combe
Discussion
What is going on in this country. Do the locals who have moved there since it has become a race circuit and now complain want it to turn back into what ot was before race cars hit the track, a Bomber airfield???? They could always have jets flying out of there day or night at 10 min intervals as with other airbases.
Castle Combe is a great race track and run by very freindly crowd. It will be a shame to see this type of nimby attitude stoping great racing at this circuit.

Would be agreat shame, have had some great times,on & off,the track at C.Coombe.
The stewards there always take great care with noise levels to the surrounding community. They check every car(103db at 4.5k revs for normal club etc days, iirc) & seem to adhere to this rule v.strictly.

Have sent an e-mail to all the addresses on on the web-site and a letter the cheif exec
But as yet i've not had one reply
Looking on the NWDC web-site and reading report there was only 4 complaints about the circuit changing a saturday for a sunday so there would be a third weekend meeting.
flamming NIMBY's nothing but a pain in there arse!!!!

Guys
I too have sent a letter to all the addresses on the list - 6 responses so far, all positive, two of which said that they had been unaware of the Order and would now like to object.
One quick point - If you are writing be polite. A rant is going to help nobody and is all too likely to be ignored.
refer to the examples of good practice at the circuit you have observed and refer to the fact that this wwill directly affect your own attendance at events with a subsequent loss of income to not only the circuit but the wider local economy.
This may be really, really annoying but cool heads will win the day

Has anybody else seen this? What i don't understand is how the council can say the circuit was not controling the noise to the rac reg's!
I must apologise that this is a circular and not personal letter. There have been a very impressive number of emails and letter concerning this matter and I could not reply to them all.
I declare an interest as someone who has attended and enjoyed racing at Castle Combe. The importance to the economy of the area is accepted and also the importance to motor racing. I hope a solution can be found.
When a local authority receives a complaint about noise or any other environmental matter, it must investigate. These investigations revealed a dB level of 118 on formula 3 days compared with 108db on normal race days. I have been told the noise increase makes the sound appear twice as load. The Environmental Health team of the council investigated and were not satisfied with the noise monitoring at the circuit and believed it was not in accordance with RAC regulations.
To cut a long story short, it is now for the courts to decide and the Council cannot withdraw the notice. I would fully support the Castle Combe Circuit in organising and running their race days, which as you have all rightly pointed out has been part of Wiltshire for 50 years. I would not support local residents who were being unreasonable. Anyone moving into the area must accept that Castle Combe circuit with its noise and traffic a few days a year.
The Council is not wishing to stop racing at the circuit but for noise to be controlled and believe the circuit management could manage that. I hope that an amicable solution can be reached.
You may not find this very helpful but if the circuit owners and race day organisers see that there is good will towards them from councillors and council officers who will work with them to find a solution.

The really sad thing is according to one of the locals she said that she was approached by some of these idiots and asked her to give £5 towards the fighting fund against the circuit, which was really the wrong thing to do as she supports the circuit.
Had to chuckle when she told them where they could go and stick their heads good on her i say!!!!!

I never know how much use these things are, but there is an online petition about this here:

The pre trial hearing is now on the 27th April,i think the sad fact is that only 5 people have complained and the fact the council seem to be hell bent on wasting us tax payers money in fighting something for a minorty of people all they,ve said we have a "DUTY" to look into all complaints to do with noise!!!!!
