Hi all,
Hopefully one of you lunatics will have had some experience of these...
(I have posted this on another site as well which kind of makes me feel guilty for some reason...)

Spotted a supercharged MR2 mk1 (looks in good nick) and on the off chance left a note asking if the owner wanted to sell. I was surprised to get a call from Kim (M) the owner and we had a chat about the car.
He warned me that it wouldn't be worth me coming to look at the car unless l was thinking of paying £3000-3500 !!!

It think its a D reg. Has done about 8,000 (yes 8K) miles in the UK which is about the last 5/6 years.
and did about 30K miles in Japan previous to its IMPORT. (Of course not proveable but does it matter on a car this old?) It is a right hand drive AUTOMATIC.

I understand these cars are rare as only a limited number of MR2 SCs were made hence l would expect a higher than normal price but...£3K? I therefore humbly request your advice. I can't see how we can already be discussing the asking price when l haven't even sat in it! Rather than waste either of out times, is this price realistic assuming it is in good a condition engine/running wise as the body might suggest?

Thanks for any advice,
funkihamsta

You could get a newer shape MR2 turbo for that price which is much quicker and sleeker. IMO it's not worth it, get the new turbo, more reliable, quicker, easier to tune. 300bhp is very easy to acheive, all through the right set of wheels

Have you seen how many Mk2's are on the road? There are SO FEW of the Mk1SCs in this country its a proper classic, (oh and it will do 0-60 in 6.5secs).

Yeah but it's not as quick as 0-60 in 5.1, and that's with 230bhp. To be honest I just don't like the mk1's at all. Not even a hairdressers car, more like an apprentice hairdressers car

Can you guarantee it wasnt nicked in Japan ? if it was, you might loose it one day, regardless of how old it is... (sorry to be a miserable old git)

Cheers
Matt.

Ive got a MK1 and it a top little car and not a hairdressers car and it isnt a SC (shame)
The cars sounds a bit pricy for an auto, have a look at the MR2 club site, they will help you with your questions.

Good luck and if you can find a manual.

A really good nick normally aspirated one could go for up to £1500 or so - so a rare SC one may well be worth £3k to some enthusiast. Whether or not that's you is your decision of course
