Peugeot 208 GTi

I'm new here, so thought I would play along and tell you guys a wee bit about my car history and my current car.
I've always been interested in cars and a bit of a petrolhead, but only recently have been able to enjoy the cars I want to!
Having passed my test, my mother kindly insured me on her Chrysler PT Cruiser 2.0. Very comfortable, but a serious barge of a thing!! MY friends found it hilarious, but deep down were jealous as the engine in the car I drove was twice the size of the cars they drove!
I moved on to a Peugeot 206 1.1. It has aftermarket alloys, boot spoiler and really was a very tidy example. I enjoyed keeping it clean and looking after it.
I then purchased a Corsa C 1.7DTi SXI. A huge 75bhp, but after a remap, 107bhp. Great fun in such a small car and very torquey.
I wanted more power. I had been looking at Seat Ibiza FR's - The pd130 engine, but the Cupra caught my eye. Very rare as there were only 400 or so left in the UK! Managed to find one in the colour I wanted, and ended up buying a tuning box for it to take it to circa 200bhp and lots of torque.
Having loved all of my previous cars, I thought I'd love the Cupra..... I was very wrong. One thing after another went wrong with it and it never gave me the chance to love it.
So, some man maths allowed me to get this, a Peugeot 208 GTi.
I must say, I'm very impressed, 200bhp supposedly similar to my Cupra but this just feels faster in every way.
It handles brilliantly and the interior is great! A real step up from anything i've driven before.
The steering wheel has to be my favourite part of the car. It is so small and chunky and feels great when driving.
Getting around 35mpg but having great fun while doing so!

143mph top speed
Plenty of space.
Overall I'm very impressed!

What went wrong with the cupra? The 150 and 160pds had notorious problems with the camshaft IIRC. Punchy torque though.
The gti looks great, don't see many on the road. Enjoy the new purchase.

The Cupra burst a coolant hose on the motorway and subsequently lunched itself and blew the turbo etc.... Had the engine and turbo reconditioned but it was just never the same again. Just so many wee faults... camshaft did actually snap and took one of the injectors with it.
Very much enjoying the gti, I always enjoy having a car that you don't see too many of!

Thanks! Yeah I test drove the new Corsa VXR and the Fabia VRS DSG and this just felt more fun and lively! Interior wise I think it is a step above the Fiesta ST and just feels a bit more premium inside. Can't really comment on the new Clio, but from what I hear the new automatic gearbox lets it down a bit!GTIAlex said:

Quick, fun, well screwed together, well specced and makes a lovely noise.
The noise isn't too bad! Wouldn't mind it being a bit louder! I've put a pipercross panel filter in mine and when you put the foot down it starts to make a great noise around 3k revs!Quick, fun, well screwed together, well specced and makes a lovely noise.

Welcome to the 208 GTi world. I've had three 208s, this being my first GTi and after about 5/6 weeks I'm hooked. Power, grippy, all the toys. Led lit glass roof and heated seats excellent. Mine proving frugal too - take it easy and average 46-47mpg is easy, only a couple of mpg shy of my old 1.2 82bhp!
