Its an odd mix of long endurance stages and tiny superspecials, without much in between. Pretty much anything could happen! Strategy and tyre management could be as big a factor as raw speed on the long stages, its quite nice having a bit of endurance back in the WRC again to balance out the sprint events.

Its hard to know whether the roads will clean and favour the drivers down the road order, or just get rougher/rutted and favour the early runners.

Saw a comment from Paddon on fb today that the 80km stage took 90 mins to recce, but is his favourite stage of the rally. Sounds positive to me.

He's not doing himself many favours so far is he. Obviously has some pace, but maybe he should have spent a bit more time in WRC2 before stepping up.

Kubica's car demolition star quality fades, meanwhile Camilli's in the ascendancy hehe

Why do the WRC media people keep lying about the 80km stage being 'the longest WRC stage for 30 years'?

I haven't checked many rallies for long stages, but the last time the Safari rally was a WRC round in 2002 it had 3 stages over 100km. Safari 1996 had a 215km stage!

WRC media = mainly clueless!!
Most of them are PR, and not journalists, and are on the WRC gravy train, and never ask any difficult questions.

I'm going

Ogier
Latvala
Ostberg or Mikelsen.

Sordo will be the best of the rest

Looks like Latvala has found his Mojo again. Ogier can't touch him!

t's all about road position wink

Not the most exciting day, with big gaps in the field. Shame Meeke and Evans are not competing, it really adds a whole load more interest to the event.

regarding stage distances, I think the cyclists in the Tour de France do a longer distance per day than the WRC do in stage miles per day !
