Was listening to "The Cult - Painted on my heart", it was from the film, gone in 60 seconds.
I'm now looking for more music like this, what type of genre is it? As i don't have anything like this in my collection.

thank you

Mix of Hard Rock, Gothic Rock and Alternative Rock. Some of their stuff can be quite heavy.

"rock ballad" perhaps?

that is pretty light for typical Cult tracks though

I think that is a pretty good match, they were always the hair metal end of Goth.
Most commonly mentioned in the Same breath as Sisters of Mercy and The Mission, that track though is more in the hair metal side 80's power ballad category.

If you like The Cult you'll probably like a fair selection of late 80s early Indie music, bands like Depeche Mode, The Alarm, Jesus and Mary Chain, The Cure etc... and a fair chance you'd like Seattle based Sub Pop early nineties grunge inspired stuff - Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Mudhoney, Sonic Youth, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots etc... etc... They're the big names that still get on my MP3 player but there is loads and loads.

Thanks for the recommendations of the groups, will have a look at them on Youtube.
I'm not getting into The Cult per se. More that type of music, more specifically that track. It's just that The Cult recorded that particular song, which was a good example of what i was after.

then unfortunately the last.fm links might not be terribly useful, as it will link to similar bands, and that track is not particularly representative of the band

you'd probably be better off buying something like this and see what bands you like on it
