£250 and an old Encyclopedia Britannia.

It's an interesting offer, you can't deny that.

Put it on ebay, 0.99 start price no reserve. This way things generally find their true value. if it looks like it's not going to sell at a price you like, then pull the auction

Suggest also putting it on pistonheads classified as offers over....

The link below shows the past prices achieved at auction for plates with "355" in it. Some suprisingly big and suprisingly small sale prices there. Hence, obviously very subjective, depends on whether the right person really wants it at the time.

DVLA auctions

So it seems like you're just going to have to see whether its the right time to sell. The difficult thing with eBay, is that the price usually rockets a few minutes before the end of an auction. Hence you wont know if its going to get a good price until the end, in which case it may be too late!

In the wibbly wobbly world of number plate pricing, these ones are very different (I believe) to the one you have.

To my mind, 355GTS selling for less than 355FER shows how up and down these things can be and that it really depends how an individual's mind works.

The real question is, can you find someone willing to pay more than 1k in today's climate?

I hope you can, honestly. But you may need to keep holding onto it (which I think costs 120 quid a year? But could be very wrong on that too) and strike at another time.

Murph, I didn't think there was an annual charge for retention of numbers, just a one-off fee. BTW I just called you....

I pay 25 quid annually each to the DVLA in order to keep the right to plates on retention. Let this lapse and apparently they have them back from you!

You definitely have to keep paying them something or it lapses. One more addition to the con of number plates

Valuations from cherished number firms don't constitute cash in your hand. If they've offered you a cheque in return for rights to the plate, nice one (and I'd snatch their hand off).

Anyway, good luck with it whatever you decide to do.

Mark - picked up your message (bit tied up now). Will call you tomorrow.

Thankyou for all your advise.?? all those posters who have nothing positive and clearly no knowldge of this at all.

Valuations of anything are just that- valuations not an offer. If you get an estate agent to value your house does he give you a cash offer for it???
For your reliable information it costs £110 to have a retention certificate for 1 year which is renewable - afterwhich you can allocate it to any vehicle for £75 or extend the period.

Ive had 3 good offers already and will sell at the end of the week.

I dont mind postsers replying in any way they feel fit - i was simply offering an item that I have enjopyed having on my car and thought a 355 owner would as well.

Could do without the smartass comments on how everything is worth so very little unless said individual happens to own it!!

As I stated above it costs 25 pounds to extend entitlement for another year on each plate...having done this, the Dvla did take my money.

In front of me I have a Certificate of entitlement to a vehicle registration mark issued by the Dvla on a V750.
Extension of entitelement period fee 25 pounds at time of printing.

registration mark assignment fee 80 pounds at time of printing.

The V750 was issued in jan 2005 so the fees are up to date.

When you buy from a dvla auction the 80 pounds entitlement fee is paid at the time, allowing you to put it on to a car the first time.

So, given that you own it, nobody can pass comment on what a plate is be worth to them ? Who made up that rule ?

I still think the plate is worth fluck all, at least that's it's worth to me.. but hey, if it's worth more than that to someone else then good luck to you..

I'm sorry if all the posts aren't talking up the price to what you'd like.
