Hello All,

I thought it was about time someone posted an important technical query, rather than all this irrelavent stuff about performance, buying advice and so on

Having trashed half a dozen original CDs, I have taken to burning copies for use in the Elise. I find that the vast majority of copies do not work, player shows cd er6 (which I believe means it does not recognise the disc).

The wierd thing is, out of 20 or so burns, I've got 4 or 5 which work fine.

Anyone know if there's a solution or is the clarion simply not up to the job. All the discs work fine in all other players around the house/ cars, I'm using Nero 6 (with updates), and philips CD-R80 on a Sony burner.

I'm wondering if a different brand of CD-R might work?

Regards, Neil

What speed are you burning at? try burning at 2 x or 4 x and im pretty sure that will solve your problem.
Good luck !

Might help...

It also could be the R80's where you maybe over burning (in mins) compared to a standard bought CD. (which i think is 74mins). If the disk when 'closed' is longer than 74mins then this maybe the cause - check the size of the cd's that work - are they less than or equal to 74min.

I had a player that refused to play 80's where i burnt them as 80's, if i burnt them as 74's then they where fine.

Not sure if Nero will allow you to change the CD's to 74's manually before burning.

Make sure you record a single session disk. (i.e. close it)

Two things 1,Get a lens cleaner. The laser light could be scattering too far. Usually they have little brushes on them to gently clean the lens. Other option is to remove the top of the unit and use a very soft artists brush. 2 How old is the unit. Some older transport can't read the discs.

What was the weather like?

I say this because mine does the same but sometimes they play sometimes they don't. BUT roof down on a sunny but very cold boxing day blackpool prom my brand new original Morrisey cd did the same. Roof on with interior warmed up (20 mins or so) no problem. This applied to to the copies also.

Have a go...
