This very nice looking car is for sale, again, this time with Seven & Classics. Nice looking car and I was wondering If it is known to anyone here? A quick search indicates that it isn't. But just in case though, does anyone know the history?
This is a table top exercise really, after the seed was planted by rubystone in another topic.
I know from open source checks that the last MOT expired 07/07/2014 the road tax expired 16/01/2016.
DVLA records show:
MOT 08/07/2013 at 16,259 miles it passed with the following advisories:
slight play in offside rear wheel bearing
offside rear outer drive shaft gaiter has small split in it, nearside starting to perish
MOT 11/11/2011 at 16,062 miles it passed with the following advisories:
offside rear drive shaft outer gaiter split
slight play in offside rear wheel bearing
MOT 10/11/2010 at 15,581 miles - No advisories
MOT 01/09/2005 at 14,222 miles, it passed with the following advisories: No position lamps or head lamps fitted, †Only to be used during daylight hours, and not used at times of seriously reduced visibility
So, I wonder if this was a track car(?)
This car does not have an entry on the Caterham Register.

Is it really worth the upgrade? I don't know the car but from what you have given, I personally wouldn't bother.
I would also look at cost to change and weigh things up.
I took onboard the point rubystone made recently (How much power does it take to make a really quick 7? topic). I would also look at cost to change and weigh things up.
This SLR is definitely a nice looking car. I thought I would do my research and IF it was potentially a car I would buy, then contact Seven & Classics to see what the actual cost to change would be and then make an educated decision on which way to go i.e. tune or upgrade.
For me, it is important to have a car with impeccable history and provenance. If I could find the right SLR I would definitely be interested to see what sort of deal I could get.
I know my SL, I know that the history is excellent and it has been fastidiously maintained. It will not and does not need any work doing other than routine servicing for the foreseeable future. Any replacement would need to be of a comparable quality; not least because I do not have the money to upgrade AND go right through the car to bring it up to the same condition. I have a very understanding wife, but even she has limits!

What do S&C say?
I want to to do my own research before approaching them. Forewarned is forearmed.Bert

How strange, they are a bunch of straightforward guys. Why not get the history from them and then research and verify it? Much easier than dancing around the internet surely?
Bert
I know they are, but as I said earlier, I wanted to do a little research to see if this was potentially a car I was interested in rather than making contact on a whim, and potentially wasting their time.Bert

Which SLR are you talking about? The orange and blue cars on PH classifieds are both sold (I was at S&C yesterday and would have liked to buy the orange one).
Thanks for the update and good luck with your search. Did you have a look at the blue R400 they have advertised? That looks like a nice car.Hello Green George, I am sorry to say that the rumors are true the Blue and Orange SLR's are sold. However I do have a Black SLR in stock which has a little extra go than normal but if its providence you want the R400 mentioned above has a full record. I really appreciate your thoughts not to waist our time but please dont ever be afraid to contact us, we are always happy to help!
