I'm looking to purchase a 2nd watch. I've already got a ~15 year old sea dweller so looking for something a bit smarter that I can put a brown leather strap on. Would like something I can wear to the office as well as with jeans and a polo shirt.

I like the IWC 5001 white dial with blue hands. I'd like a watch with a date, power reserve and running seconds. They're about 5k pre-owned and ideally I'd prefer not to spend much more than this.

Is there anything else I should be looking at?

I'm hoping if I buy at 5k it won't lose too much value over the next 10 years if kept in good condition? My sea dweller now seems to be worth a bit more than I bought it for. I'm fine with this not gaining value but I'd be a bit disappointed if it lost significant value.

Thanks.

Dornblueth 99.3 or 99.5 if you can wait. But they are worth the wait.

Get the IWC, anything else will feel like a compromise and you won't be happy with it. It shouldn't lose much either.

JLC Master Chrono? Probably a bit on the dressier side but if you wanted more sporty then there's the Master Compressor option.

Bless he thinks a Dornbluth is a compromise compared to an IWC.

Might be worth having a look at glashutte original, they do some wonderful watches, that to me are slightly more exclusive than IWC, the senator ( I think) is similar in style.

If you purchase a watch different to the one you want, you've compromised.

spot on

I hanker after a Portuguese and a Dornbluth, but wonder whether the lesser known Dornbluth hold their value - hard to tell as it is a very small market

Plus with Dornbluth making each watch to a personal specification it can be difficult to sell on some of the more unique iterations.

yes I really like their simple elegance (similar to the IWC) but would stay well clear of initials or personal messages if I was specifying a new one

Yes if the question asked by the OP was "where is good to get an IWC5001?"
That was not what the OP asked, he asked "Is there anything else I should be looking at?" i.e for suggestions of other watches that might be of interest.

Someone suggested a Dornbluth, great suggestion, only a pathetic closed minded fool would suggest this is a compromise compared to the IWC mentioned. I would suggest you had never heard of that brand prior to this thread, perhaps it is a bit under the radar for a provincial golf club.

If that's not the case, your life must be a version of living hell, I cant imagine walking into a watch shop (my second favorite purchase after flats) and HAVING to buy what I went in for. Seeing something different that you like more being a compromise, strange.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Love the Dornbluth 99.5 but I'd worry about potential resale values compared to the IWC.

Think I've made my mind up and I'll get the IWC once I can find one at a decent price.

hahaha tbh they are really not my style, I dont ever do formal stuff, me smart is sport jacket and trousers so tend to prefer my watches sporty and macho, to make up for the paunch and active life style that involves going to the gym via the pub (well i sometimes remember to keep up the front and take a gym bag to the pub.)
I do sometimes wear my Air King on a the bracelet, that is smart and formal to me! I just have a thing for the German quality manufactures at the moment!

Well, I'm not a member of a provincial golf club but Dornbluth have passed me by up to now. I've now done some research and am smitten. Anyone know where you can see them in UK? There doesn't seem to be a dealer network.
