I knew i wanted either a Saab or a BMW 5 Series, looked at a few of each model and couldnt really decide whether the BMW's are over priced or the Saab under priced. The Beemers were typically 2.5k more than a similar spec'd Saab, Im sure they are the 'better' car in every department but I couldnt justify the price difference for what I use my car for.

Viewed 2 Saabs local to me, 1st one was a 07 with all the options i wanted and good mileage but was tatty, needed front brakes, rip in the seat, both wing mirrors knackered, generally looking abit tired. 2nd one again a 07, had cream leather that wasnt wearing well and a couple of nasty MOT's in the past.

Found this one on A/T, private seller, good colour, refurbed wheels, new D.I cassette and good mileage, good history and as its a 55 plate the tax remains at £290 as from 06 it went to £490 which would have irritated me beyond belief.

So picked this up today to replace my 03 9-5 Aero

Originally i wanted all the options but this one hasn't got many so justified to myself that i didn't need them anyway
Sat Nav - my phone is better
Heated rears - nobody hardly sits in the back
memory seats - Im the only driver
Harmon Kardon - I dont even own an iPod so wasted
Sunroof - Try finding one
Folding mirrors - Yet to see a car with them actually working properly
Manual - Getting old

Drive home was great, my previous Aero was manual and this one is auto so that took abit of getting used, pulled extremely well, everything works, interior feels a big step up from the previous model, rode and handled better too.

Downsides, wasnt prepared for the jump of 8 insurance groups from last model so premium went up....alot, fuel consumption was poor (probably alot to do with my 'testing') and something didnt quite look right when i saw it, only realised later (doh) that it doesn't have roof rails, not that i ever used them but never seen 1 without.

Its been stood awhile so a good clean is in order and a service. Hopefully will get some better pictures over the weekend

The 9-5 not having roof rails is pretty common. I was looking last year and wanted one with rails. How much did you pay if you don't mind saying?

Re the roof rails, didnt realise they were an option, thought they were standard. I think i prefer them on so might source a pair.
As for price, well i paid £2700, in my view quite high but hopefully will need nothing as every thing done recently, DI cassette, brakes, wheels refurbed, matching tyres. Prices are generally all over the place, im sure lots of people will have paid less for one, 2 local to me at traders were £3500 for a 06 with 90k, and 07 with 79 for £4900 and both needed tidying. Overall im really happy with the condition so think i have bought the right one....time will tell

Looks good! As you say, you honestly can't beat them for the price. I looked at lots of options, BMW 5, Volvo V70, Audi, Skoda, Mondeao (all estate versions) and nothing came close. I prefer the older style but that's me.

I agree, i think my last one (facelift 53 plate) looks better but this model is growing on me. Certainly looks better in the flesh than my crappy phone pics

I find Saabs very interesting and appealing, but I have no idea why?

Lovely car OP. I really like Saabs, and I'm probably in a minority but I think it looks better without the roof rails.

Great car OP, lovely spec. I'm tempted to upgrade my 02 Aero estate, but as the old girl's performing so well at the

moment I don't have the heart to part with her! cloud9
