Basically, the more complicated the car, the more people you will need to support it. I would suggest you keep to either saloons, FF1600 / FF2000, Radical, ex-Formula Vauxhall Lotus etc. If you, (like most of us) fancy something like an ex-Formula Renault or more complex cars, you could find that you will need at least one extra pair of hands and a large bank balance.

i have found the best source of info when considering a race car purchase is to speak to drivers at meetings. almost every person i have spoken to regarding buying a car has been really useful and most cars that are sold are never advertised going between racers. you can see the car you are intending to buy and its performance relative to other competitors and late on in the season you can be offered a few bargains.

The back pages of Car and Car Conversions are also a good place to browse and see whats what. But yes, a lot of race cars change hands at circuits.

If you're looking to start racing the first thing you need to decide is which championship you will enter, rather than what car you will by. Then find out the dates/venues and go along and watch, talk to a few people, make some contacts.

One tip I would suggest - buy the car from Parc Ferme, straight after a race. Then you know what you're getting.

I'm after one too, a bit of cheapish amateur circuit racing. Saloon type car would suit me best, currently eyeing the porsche 924 in the classifieds, something along those lines

What sort of racing do you want to do.
If you fancy low budget single seater, super fast club racing then take a look at www.monoposto.co.uk

Im about to run in the mono1200 (bike engined single seaters). The cars can lap as quickly as an F3 car, but cost very little to run.

Second hand car from about 7k and then £100 per race entry. You dont even have to compete in all the races. You can 'pay and play' so to speak.


Not many parts to go wrong, and some suppliers such as Jedi Racing Cars (my nickname is not associated with them... I just happen to own one of their cars) give support at each race (spares etc).

Saloon driving can end up more expensive than monoposto, so it is worth taking a look, as it is great fun.

For any of those interested I am selling a race car.

It is an ex-super tourer Cleland Vauxhall Cavalier with lot and lots of spares including sets of wheels and slicks.

It is a great track car and good first race car.

I am looking for £4000 - £5000 for the car including all the spares. Real bargin and great starting point.
