Home Bicycle Workshop
Discussion
Afternoon,
I have been keeping my bikes in the garage, but, having recently built up a winter bike from various spare parts (admittedly I had to buy a few upgrades to create spares from one of my bike!) I now have 6 bikes and moving them around in the garage is a pain.
I have decided to buy a large shed and create a bicycle workshop.
thinking 10ft x 8ft shed (a tree and a gate limit anything larger) going to go with:
- door and a window in the 8ft end, with;
- 4 of these on the other 8ft end http://www.bikedocksolutions.com/product/the-wall-...
- 1 of these under the window http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sealey-AP2030-Workbench-...
- I'll board it out inside and, whilst I have a free standing foldable bike stand I will get a wall mounted one as it takes up less space; similar to this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Park-Tool-PRS4W-Wall-Mou...
- I have 2 of these for my more frequently used bikes http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Garage-Wall-Mounted-Bike...
anything I have missed? got a full compliment of tools I've amassed over the years, figured a peg board would be ok for these, not sure yet about flooring or insulation, but will get electrics hooked up.
any suggestions welcome.
thanks

I'd really consider spending some money on security. A ground anchor is a must, anything fixed to the shed itself isn't strong enough. If budget allows I'd opt for some 16mm (from memory) chain as it's less likely to be broken with bolt croppers.
Insulation and ventilation is worth considering, the last thing you want is condensation and fusty bags, helmets etc.
Seems like you've got a good plan already, good luck with it!

Definitely consider a desiccant dehumidifier to keep it dry and stop condensation rusting tools.
I have a Pragmasis Shed Shackle and 13mm chain, but have beefed up the lock on the door. You can use builders band to reinforce the roof and walls as it is not unknown for them to simply lever the roof off a shed. I also chose 22mm thickness timber cladding to make it stronger, blinds on the windows and thought about access into the garden.
Nice though a peg board is, better to have the tools in a lockable chest so they could not use them to take the bikes apart and nick the components. Plus my bike tools are worth quite a bit too.
