Single Speed MTB Conversion

I'm looking at a Single speed conversion for one of my bikes, it's currently running 1x10 so I am assuming all I need is the following;

The chain tensioner is fine but I'd avoid the sprocket and spacer kit.
Ideally you want a wide base sprocket otherwise it'll chew up your freehub body pretty badly. With the On-One spacer kit only having two spacers it doesn't give you the option of fine tuning the chain line do it's straight.

Personally I use spacers and sprockets from Velo Solo, slightly dearer but much better quality. It's also worth looking at the Charlie the Bikemonger website as he goes any amount of singlespeed kit for conversions.

Try the DMR spacer kit instead as it has as few different size spacers in it so you can get an accurate chainline alignment. I had one on my commuter for a while before I bought the charge.

What bike is it you've got and what kind of bottom bracket does it use, there is more than one way to singlespeed a bike.

A thin sprocket will only chew up the freehub if it is an alloy freehub, steel ones are fine. I use On-One Groove Armada sprockets on my alloy freehubs, these have a wide base and are only a tenner apiece, I do use Velo Solo spacers though...

Good point there re the alloy bodies.
I can't actually remember the last time a saw a wheel with a steel freehub body. Saying that I've got an aftermarket steel body on my Hope hub that's on the singlespeed and it's totally unmarked.

Superstar do nice spacer kits to match all their other colourful reasonably priced bits.
(decent clearance discounts on finishing kit atm)
Also wide based cogs (only 16t in stock tho) and tensioners.

Tried my mates oval chainring so that's next on my SS sly upgrade list.

BB30 and PF30 you can get eccentric to fit, and for BSA as they use screw in cups and fit on the outside, but with bb92 due to the width of the shell it leaves no space to put the eccentric mechanism, and the diameter isn't enough to get the eccentricity and bearings in board either.

It doesn't use external cups, it has the bearings fitted in the eccentric.

That my dear fellow is the exact bottom bracket I use in my niner which is a pf30 frame with very different bottom bracket dimensions to an xtc, which I also have in my stable. Don't forget it's not like the good old days of square taper where you would just buy a longer axle the axle is already fixed to the cranks so that is another limiting factor as to how it can be done.

Yes that will fit in the frame but the bottom bracket shell is 91.5mm wide, so you need longer bolts to secure it, not a problem, but the problem comes in it is too wide for the crank spindle/axle. BB30 and PF30 are 68mm width shells on a road/cross bike and 73 on a mountain bike, so with the bearings outboard on the eccentric unit wheels mfg/problem solvers it all comes out as the correct width for a standard hollowtech II bottom bracket.
