Afternoon all! I'm going to be racing in Club100 this year, and wanted some help finding a helmet. I don't want to spend a huge amount if I don't absolutely have to (but am happy to do so).

I understand the most important thing is fit, so will try a few helmets on - but what I'm wondering is the difference between karting and motorbike helmets. In Club100, I believe I'm correct in saying that there are no regulations for the helmets (e.g. MSA). Am I right? If so, are there any benefits of me going with a karting helmet rather than motorbike, given the range is greater and cheaper?

One of the benefits of a karting helmet is that you won't look so much like a novice, you'll look like you're there to take it seriously, particularly if you get a dark/mirrored visor.

Maybe you will prefer to look like a novice at first instead of all the gear and no idea.

I assume you are a novice the question implies as much?

Is it just the dark/mirrored visor in karting? Or do the helmets fit/shape differently? I'm more concerned about technical capabilities. I read something about fireproofing, which was what prompted me to raise the question - hopefully wouldn't need it!

Yes, total novice. I raced in Club100 Sprints 2 times last year, and plan to do it 4 times this year. Also figuring for the local track nights out (indoor karting) it'd be nice to have my own helmet, too.

Karting helmets are ideal.....unsure on the differences structurally between them and bike helmets but the snell sticker on the helmet will be the correct one of you end up going MSA racing in the future too....plus they are cheaper than bike helmets anyway.

Have a look on demon tweeks, and also here http://www.v2sport.com I have the v2 pro and they are excellent...have also had Omp kart helmets (the predecessor to the gp7) which were also very good.

Karting helmets do not have fireproof lining. V2 helmets aren't karting specific because they are fireproof so can be used in car racing if you progress into that - they are quite popular, though a little on the heavy side in my opinion.
