the tyres on my car are all avons, front 205/55 zr16 (5.5mm tread),rear 225/50 zr16 (7mm tread)
i presume these sizes are correct ?
however the fronts are turbospeed cr228's
rear's are zz1's
will this mixture of tread patterns affect the handling?
the cheapest option of getting a matching set would be to buy some zz1 fronts,is this a good idea or should i wait untill they are all more worn and buy full set of so2's or similar.
not long had the car , so not exactly rolling in it at the moment.

zz1's are utterly awful. I have had 4 on my Aston V8 Vantage xpack and they have limited grip, and are dreadful in the wet.

You're driving an Aston in the wet? Sacrilege

I would wait until each set wears down, then replace them with a more common choice of Porsche rubber, say, SO2 replacements (SO3?) or Goodyear Eagle F1s.

As long as you are not mixing on the same axle, you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Sure, it will oversteer/understeer more than when it left the factory maybe, but this will normally be noticeable only in extreme conditions (this can include rain if you drive a 911!).

Change them when ready, but I wouldn't go for the Avons in the longterm, unless you are talking ACB10 racing rubber or something daft

I'm with Domster on this one - but replace 'em as soon as is practicable fiscally. (i.e. let 'em wear down a bit...)

I would never compromise on tyres or brakes in *any* way, though. If the car doesn't go *you* call the RAC. If the car doesn't stop *they* call an ambulance.

What's the car they're fitted to...?

given the tread depths of 5.5 front and 7 mm rear , how much life is left on these ?

I think 3mm is the legal minimum. Best to check.

7mm is nearly new, 5.5 about half worn.

The legal limit is 1.6mm isn't it? Although I generally change tyres when they reach 3mm, because performance in very wet conditions starts to suffer IMO.

You may be right, it was off the top of my head - I change them near the 'blobs' or when the car starts heading for hedges in the wet

The legal limit is 1.6mm over 3/4 of the tread.
