My partner and I have just move to Portsmouth and are completely new to the south coast. If we get a break in the weather I'd like to try out some local scenic drives. Can anyone recommend a few to get us started.

Many thanks.

Wickham to West Meon, and then onto Midhurst is a nice drive! Good roads, can have a police presence on it though, but you can have a nice time on it!

Find Downend Road at Fareham and take a drive along the top of the hill.

This.

Fantastic route, especially in the summer evenings. Whenever I have anything new fitted to my car I usually take this route to test it out smile

For a shortened / alternative version of this instead of the A272 to Midhurst at Petersfield, take the B2146/B2141 down to Chichester.
Once at Chichester, take the back road (through Funtingdon) back to Havant and then the B2177 along the top of Portsdown Hill (for a bite to eat, there's a very decent burger van at the roundabout on the top of the hill, not Micks Monster Burgers on the left which is always too busy and plagued by seagulls!) which eventually brings you all the way back to Fareham (or Wickham if you choose a right at the roundabout at the top of the hill).
Not the best of directions but if you look a map you'll see what I mean smile

I live in Portsmouth as well - I can vouch for driving the route laid out above - aka the back roads to Goodwood. Plus if you are a car couple you can tie it in with a coffee at Goodwood. Check out their track diary since there usually something on every weekend - some kind of track day to go and wonder and drool over to then drive home and try and not speed having seen some cars honing around.

Pop across to the IOW military road on the south side is a great coastal road.

You might like Calshot, Lepe, Inchmary, Exbury, onto Beaulieu for the museum.
