This is my planned trip for 2016 ......http://binged.it/1JnwGgy

Any comments, places to go, different routes etc. most welcome. The "waypoints" are where I have hotels booked.

Zed, Wozy and all welcome your input.

Not sure that link is right (on the mobile at least). Seems to be missing the alps altogether!

It needs a space after the last full stop for the link to work. smile

Certainly an absence of Swiss alpine passes - Grimsel, Furka, St Gotthard, Nufenen, Flüela, Umbrail, San Bernadino, etc.

I can't seem to use the map very well. It's either too close up or to far away to see detail but I would agree with others that if you're going close to the Andermatt Loop you may as well take advantage.

If you're going to Baden Baden, I suggest you stick to "L" roads heading directly south through the Black Forest. Fantastic. They will bring you out virtually at the Andermatt Loop.

When heading back towards Spain, you may also want to consider Col de l'Iseran, Col du Galibier, and Col de la Bonntte. I've done Galibier and found the road was a bit rough but can't speak for the other two. Also the Col du Ventoux is worth a detour up towards Avignon if you have the time.

If I remember correctly you're quite knowledgeable about Spain so I won't make any comments there.

Haven't done Col de la Bonette so can't comment.
Col de l'Iseran has a great flow to it and the views are stunning.
It's also much closer to his current route.

Have done this twice now.. once midweek, which was amazing. Second time was on a Sunday - hugely frustrating due to the amount of slow cars in all direction and a lack of overtaking opporunities.

If you can fit in the run from Altdorf to Glarus, that's a lovely run, I much prefered it to Stelvio (which is somewhat over rated in my opinion). The section out of Altdorf is a steep winding climb with sheer drops and bog all to stop you falling off apart from a pretty flimsy fence, after the pass its a far gentler descent with a huge variety of corners.

Thanks for the replies so far. Will be doing the Andermatt loop. The map was just a rough idea of where I had hotels booked, the detail is what you are giving me wink Galibier is on my list on route to Gap from Chamonix. Wonder what the temperatures will be like in July/August? I figure if I keep high enough the humidity levels will be lower hopefully.
The run from Baden-Baden to Fussen seems to divert me away from the black forest. Should I just go by feel until I'm far enough South (Todtnau?) then head East to the North of Lake Constance to Fussen?

Thanks Zed. The problem I had with the map was that because it is winter it won't allow the passes as they are closed. I'll get a better idea from my paper maps to see what's what wink

Spent 12 days in the Black Forest and on the Andermatt loop in Sept. 2014 and never had a traffic problem; and again in August 2015 for a week.

I use motogoloco for route planning. It transfers easily to Tyre and then to TomTom or Garmin.

This will help me loads as I am also planning a similar trip and this was one of my concerns when I go in April.

Why not do l'Iseran too? From Chamonix nip over the Italian border to Pré-Saint-Didier and back to Bourg-Saint-Maurice. Then - https://goo.gl/maps/L4yAqVdJgqR2

The YouTube video doesn't work, I believe the video may be set to private.
