Discount on brand new PP at AD?
Discussion
Hi, I found a Patek I really like - the 5205R. It's at an AD and list price is about £31k. I'm just wondering what sort of discount a buyer might expect to get on this watch?
Just considering straight up discount a UK AD would likely offer on such a piece (outside of London), not VAT avoidance tricks.
Any experiences / info would be really helpful. Thanks

Thanks for looking, it is actually the black face one I want which is a little harder to come by - cheapest, and only, on Google shopping is £30k so not really any discount at all.
However, these are all non-AD and I want to buy from my local AD so would love to know what discount should (if any) be expected when buying from the main dealer this particular watch.

A beautiful watch - just spent a happy 10mins reading the owners manual for it on the Patek site and pretending I own it!
But if an AD really will just chop of £5k from the list price then it really makes the mind boggle and me wonder again about marketing, branding and deliberately limited production in the watch industry.
Should have studied marketing and business apparently...
Nice watch though and likely to hold it's value. OP let us know how much you get from the AD and whether the haggle is treated like the norm when buying this kind of watch.

Silly answer but what difference does a few k make when your spending 30k? If it does then I suppose vat free in the USA or Switzerland is the way to go.
Bit of a stupid question? No different to someone spending 3k trying to get 500 off. It's all relative? Why would you not try and save the money only because it's 31k?Hi, yes despite the price to buy, I'm expecting it to cost me a lot less than that as I'll hopefully get a decent chunk back when I sell in the future, so any discount now helps make the ownership that bit cheaper. Plus there is an aspect of wanting to get a 'good deal'. Would be a bit annoying paying X only to find out someone else had paid X -10% for the same thing.

It's a great one, the only black and rose gold model they have without getting to the grand complications. But if an AD really will just chop of £5k from the list price then it really makes the mind boggle and me wonder again about marketing, branding and deliberately limited production in the watch industry.

I will let you know, I've got an idea of what I'd like to get it for, but could do with some examples for reference as there are hardly any on the used/ grey market to compare to.
Ummm, Shirley you got at least something off to sweeten the deal?
Fling in an Omega Speedmaster or perhaps something for the Mrs to allow a discount to be applied without actually applying a discount? Kinda amazed if that didn't happen - after all how many of them do they sell a week?
Anyway congrats on the watch - it's a real beauty.

Haha yes, that is exactly how they did it - a couple of options, generally around £2k of value. I thought the best was 4 years 0% finance. So it works out OK - a nice little kicker, still of course notably cheaper if you play the tax evasion game, but that's not for me. And grey market supply is pretty non-existent on this specific model with the black dial.
