Land Rover specialist North Kent, recommendations
Discussion
Can personally recommend AHL Engineering, they're out the other side of Ulcombe (in the middle of nowhere!) but they look after my L322, and previously my P38, and they are both very knowledgeable and very very helpful. I'm in W Malling so it's probably a similar-distance trek for me as for you but well worth it. As well as actually doing the work, you can call them for help & advice which they always seem very happy to give whether you're actually spending money or not.
Anything specific you need doing? I'll have a think as to whether there is anyone else.

I can't immediately think of anywhere good for welding, I tend to do my own (well, after a fashion!). You could actually ask AHL, if they don't do it themselves then they must know someone who does, given that their workload is almost entirely Solihull-generated.
ETA - looking through the pics on their website suggests that they do indeed do welding.

My wife has driven my power-steering coil-sprung Defender once and pretty much pronounced "never again" so I'd beware of letting your anywhere near a Series - if you want to keep it!!
Personally I love driving mine. Having had an SIII previously, I must admit that the Defender is more user-friendly, but that's all relative!

I had a weird conversation this morning. Drove to the station car park, got on the train, then i remembered I had used the fan blower (the passenger side was lovely and clear!) and forgot to switch it off.
Now i know if you don't switch the lights off, they stay on, but I couldn't remember about the fan blower. So i call the first land rover specialist on google, John Brown and asked him! After he realized a)I didn't buy the car from him, and b)I was calling from kent and he is in Yorkshire, we had a laugh! still, he confirmed that if it is standard series wiring, the fan blower should go off with the ignition. What a nice bloke, I'll find out tonight if he was right!
