Hi

The Oil Pressure Gauge on our Sigma engined Roadsport has recently stopped working. Is this a common fault and if so, what tends to be the cause please? About to service the car so its an ideal time to swap the pressure sensor etc but would hate to find a fuse or duff gauge is the culprit!

Cheers

You can usually check the gauge functions OK by touching the wire that goes to the sender to earth. If you get full deflection, it should just be sender problem.
If nothing happens either the gauge has gone, or there is a wiring fault.

The standard Sigma that I looked at a few months ago did not have a variable resistance sender like K cars do, but had a Danfoss solid-state sender that produced something like 0-5volts for 0-7 bar.
Touching the sender connection to ground is unlikely to have the desired effect....

These solid state sensors don't last long when connected directly to the engine - the heat and vibration kills them. I would replace it and fit a remote kit.

This is only for the purposes of running the gauge rather than datalogging or an expensive ECU so I'm looking for a low cost and reliable solution please. Any links to the remote kit please?

Also, is this the like-for-like replacement part?

Oil Pressure Sender - Including Sub Loom - S3/SV and CSR
SKU: 58223B http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_prod...

If so, would be good to confirm its the sender before spending £78 +delivery.

Cheers

LMA058 1 1/4" NPT (TIM254)

Edit:

IIRC it uses the speedo to process signal for the gauge and ECU. It may be worth thinking about an independent gauge. Some swear by mechanical ones but I like the Stack electrical ones with the stepper motor.

Thanks. Interesting comment, I wonder if the oil pressure gauge stopped working at the same time as our speedo? B

Just looked at the wiring diagram and it's the tacho that's involved, not the speedo, so probably not connected.
