There are plenty of bike hire shops in porta Pollensa but I've heard good things about pro bike hire. I hired a bike this summer with a company called sport Bequi as they were attached to the hotel I was staying in and they were pretty good. There are some stunning rides from there as well. Heading out to Cap Formentor is worth it for the scenery or there are loads of routes the other way into the mountains. At this stage I'm planning on renting a bike there and taking my gear. Great place to ride, can do some good long flat rides, or up into the mountains, obviously Sa Calobra is the main one, but I preferred La Puig Major climb from the West, and obviously up in Pollensa you have the ride to the lighthouse which is a fantastic route. Up in the mountains will be cold though. I was there at the end of January and it was -2 at the top of Puig.

I seriously underestimated it. First day was up the lighthouse in baking sunlight, about about 15-20 degrees, 2nd day flat long ride out was about 15c all day, and then 3rd day went up to try Sa Calobra, started drizzling on the road up from Pollensa, and then bit more rain, then started hammering, didn't even have a waterproof jacket as the forecast didn't say it would rain, and it got to 2c at pretty much the top. Still snow on the tops up the Puig. need more clothing than you think, especially for the descents! As if it is at all wet, you can't hammer it through and of the corners as much to keep your temps up.

kING WERE! I knew it! I ddint want to ask anyone as it would seem odd and it took me ages to work out what the fk was going on. Although my climbs were in the sun, all the descents were on very slippery med roads covered in water/dew/moisture/run-off, particulalry Sa Calobra. So I was on the brakes alot. For the first couple of descents I was getting big lock-ups on the rear and yet as I modulated the rear the added front, they just got worse. The whole time I was actually applying more rear.f

It's horrible though isn't it? I've bought a couple of bike abroad and I couldn't wait to get them swapped over. You just know muscle memory would kick in during an emergency stop and you'd lock the back whilst feathering the front, resulting in you ploughing full speed into whatever had pulled out in front of you.
Presumably a hire shop could swap them over easily enough, if asked?

We rented Cannondale SuperSix Evo with Di2 from Bikehead.se last year. Mega light bikes, in good condition and for a good price. They are based in Alcudia and deliver to your hotel. Ask for Mikey.

Stayed in Can Picafort in September and rented a bike for 2 days from these guys, http://www.wheelssport.net/empresa/?a=Ciudad&b... (has routes on the website) £35 a day, bikes were Eddy Merckx MX1. I rode to Cap Fermentor, circa 80Km, with the hills after Puerto Pollensa towards Cap Fermentor rather steep, a good challenge and the scenery is stunning. Take care going through the tunnel near the end of Cap Fermentor especially on the decent, someone crashed into the wall when I was there, tunnel isn't lit but fine if you take care. Take your own clothing, shoes and helment. Looking to go back and do a full week of cycling this summer, enjoy. Does anyone know of any routes and cycle hire shops there ?
