It's a nice thing to tick off the to do list, but it's only a watch wink

Bought my Sub date in 1990 , I was 26 and had always wanted one from about 14 years of age, I blame the adverts in National Geographic! I spent most of my first months wage on it , bought in Bahrain for £900 ish , they were £1200 ish in the UK at the time. Bought my next one for my 50th , a SS Daytona!

If only they were that cheap now hehehehe

I bet the Daytona cost a bit more then the £900 or so you paid for your Sub in 1990, which was actually before I was born...! yikesrofl

I only went in to see how much a new strap for the Sub was, at £800 I thought I would leave it,anyway got talking to the manager and put my name down for a Daytona , about 8 months later I got the call, and yes it was a tad more than my first Rolex!

SS Datejust at 25... Wanted a Rolex dress watch and this was just perfect.

Bi-colour Daytona at 35.. wanted one since I first saw one in a magazine.

I've sold both and will possibly buy another Daytona at some point.

Loving my Tudor Black bay's at the moment.

Bought my first (SS Datejust) at 36. Mail order from Alexanders in Guildford

Wanted a lifetime keepsake.

And something that could be instantly turned to cash when my secret spy mission in the heart of Africa went to sh*t and I had to make my way across the Sahara to safety.

Now have two more pre-owned (non C Sub, GMT (Pepsi) in the collection. Doing better than an ISA.

Never needed them for bribes to escape hostile countries though. Visa card worked fine.

:-)

It took some work to get mine.

10 years service at work I got a horrible longines gold watch, managed to take it back to the shop and exchange for a Brietling, sold that to a mate and bought an Omega Seamaster chrono.

Sold the Omega and bought a 2nd hand Zenith El primero.

15 years service, 34 years young ( now you can buy what you want and provide receipt) - exchanged the Zenith for an unworn but used Seamaster from Blowers

25 years service - still have the Rolex.

I've got a GMT II i bought as a 21st birthday present to me as a do-all watch. I've worn it every day for the last almost-twelve years. You've made me feel old.

I'd love a no-date Sub at some point but I just can't justify it now. Not when my Steinhart Ocean Titanium 500 is so nice for the money. If I do splash out it'll likely be on a Pelagos I think.

When: this year
Age: 30 something
Why: Had too many Omegas and got a good trade on one for a J12 and a 1966 Rolex Date Just....felt I needed to have one in my life seeing as I have a Tudor already. 1966 is also the date my grandfather moved into the house that we have just bought from him and renovated; felt like some significance there.

Got my first one as a 21st B-Day present from my Mum & Dad, so I'll never sell that and still enjoy using it occasionally.

First one I bought myself was at, I think, 23, but that is long gone now!

25 = Submariner Date, I still have it
39 = Explorer II Polar, sold
40 = SS Daytona Polar, sold
44 = Explorer 39mm, current beater

All bought for the same reason, because I wanted to and liked the design, movement doesn't really come into it as they all have solid workhorse units
