gtir - There's a van dealer near me (Lancs, so no good to you unfortunately) who's got a few Transits around the 90/91 age. IIRC they were up for between £1000-£1400. Body work might be an issue on some tho.

Peterborough has an BCA site. I know my cousin got a Maestro van there a few years ago but you'd have to ring them to see if they still do vans and on what day.

we've got a 94 M reg tranny (1 of the 1st "smiley" ones).. - can't really think of anything major we've had wrong w' it tho... - It needed new propshaft bearings a couple of years ago and the old 1's were stuck on the propshaft.. - Ford dealer ended up trashing the propshaft tryin to get them off - that wasn't cheep.. - Other that that, just the usual stuff - discs & pads, front wheel bearings etc...

They were built to do millions of miles and they will..

Try to get 1 with as much history as you can - 'cos i believe that a regular oil & filter can make a big differance to engine life (same as anything I 'spose) - and to pulling power - they're a bit gutless - especially when compared to newer ones...

Is yours a diesel, as they are 2.5l and I would have thought pretty pokey?

Yep - it's a 2.5l diesel - the 76PS One. - I think standard was 70PS... - Top speed your talking (flat out, downhill, tailwind etc) 84mph - a bit crap against Sprinters, IVECO, new tranny etc which can sit at a ton all day and it takes an age to get there.

You'll probably notice this most when you catch another 1 and try to pass it "truck style" ie. about 0.5mph differance, both going about 80ish with a queue of cars behind. Still - it's prob'ly saved me from a few speeding tickets by ensuring that I sit at that on the motorway for the last 4 years...

Have a look at the Turbo one if you can - I haven't driven one, and I dont think there are many about, but it should be a bit quicker.

Pete.
