Finally gone and bought a proper car to replace the ageing MG. A C36 AMG Merc. Pick it up this afternoon so if anyones interested I'll let you know how I get on with it (and the auto box ....)

Anyone else out there owned one and got any tips?

i had one about 3ys ago, nice dk green metallic with black leather. all have an auto gearbox btw, mine was a 4 speed, think they all are.

great car but watch the break pads and disks as they cost £1000+ a set!!!

was superbly fast car and very quick, try going round a rbout and getting it to kick down!

Cheers benno,
Good info about the brakes but with the disks being just shy of 13" on the front I figured they wern't going to be cheap!!!

Was the traction control setup on the car any good or did you just turn it off?

My brothers got one. I've driven it and thinks it's bloody brilliant. Best thing is numpties don't realise how quick it is, they're not used to seeing Mercs being driven like porsches.

He's also got "THE" plate as well (C reg!!!!!)

It arrives in 2 hours, just spent well over an hour in Wentworth Car Audio checking out what cd player to stuff in it (it still has the factory RC).. They had a fantastic blue / portland grey tamora in there getting kitted out. Wonder if it belongs to a pistonheads reader?

isnt that what steve sutcliffe the autocar bloke is driving at the mo - he loves it but says the quality is crap so check it thoroughly before getting it

It's checked out well, fMBSH - feel very solid, only 2 owners in 10 years. It's been spoiled too - full amg alloys as a spare, air con rock solid, and all backed up by a 12 month RAC 5 star warranty... So fingers crossed. Only bad thing is cloth seats (leather came later on) but I can live with that I guess!!!

Does need a decent stereo in it though...

it should have leather as standard, if its cloth then you should be getting it at a good price

i sold my 96/n car about 2yrs ago for 19,000 with 43k on the clock but it was mint with fmbsh!

steve sutcliffe has a C32 which is the new supercharged one, the C36 is a straight six with 280bhp and ahem....likes wagging its tail. It will keep pace with a moving Griff with relative ease, i can testify as been in a 2 way encounter, firstly when i owned the C36 and later when I had the Griff

yep, going to track day tomorrow, so is flasher and nuckledragger!

Reason it's cloth is it's the first release of cars from 94 (it's an M-Reg) - later cars (I think 96 on) had leathe - .and yep - i did get a pretty good deal on it! Have to take it out to a track and switch off the traction - see what it can do (or more likely what I can't.....)

Nice one! Seriously fast car. Had a head to head with one in Stanmore couple of years ago in the Supra, and I was impressed with the way it managed to keep up for a while. Sounded really good too. It was a silver one and I recall it had the "C" plate too! Thats not your brother's car is it Dazren?

Shit the bed. Some of you guys must have lost a fortune in changing your cars so often. Have you ever added up the full amount of depreciation on all your cars?! Just an idea - buy something you actually want to keep.

nah buy as desired model as cheaply as possible, lose 3-4k every 6 months. Its almost as cheap as buying a 20k mondeo and keeping it for 3 years, but a whole lot more fun...

hehe well I've got it now, jeez costs a bit to fill the tank compared with the MG! Nice to have air con on a day like today, but best of all the smooth ride and the serious power you can feel lurking under your foot, 280 horses ready to run. Great sound too when you kick down.

Right, enough gassing, I'm off to find some quiet roads (if there are any in surrey on a sunny friday afternoon in rush hour....)

Sounds like him, always up for the ruck!!! The C plate went on in May 2000. Looks the bollocks, now he's got the plate though he's not interested in changing up to a later vehicle.

Good grief. Losing 8 grand a year is daft, although I admit I would love to be able to afford to do it. I have just bought a second E30 M3 (Sport Evo, modified for the track) and it will not lose a bean in value.....just tax/MOT/insurance and servicing to take into account......so not that cheap then.
