2016 Road trip ideas
Discussion
I'm thinking of a month long European road trip in either June or September hopefully incorporating a motoring event, ie. WEC, F3 screamers, historic car racing or even car shows.
As a guide, something Spain or Portugal way but I have done the Pyrenees 3 times and northern Portugal once. Not the Swiss or French Alps, nor northern Italy. The Balkans would have been a shout but not keen on parading past migrants on their way to Europe (up to 724,000 from 34,000 in 2014)
Not easy, but any ideas welcomed..

Spain ..... Spain .... Spain, oh and Spain.
The wife and I did North to South, South to North in a trip starting at and finishing in Santandar. Mix of beach time, driving time and visiting great places. 12 days around 2000 miles. Only three days were more than 300 miles if memory serves.
Minimal autoroute.
This was the route:
Santandar to Madrid in the day heading south on the N623 to the Embalse de Ebro and then via N232A to ONA (fab route following the River Ebro) and onwards on the CL632 then A1 south to Madrid bypassing Burgos. (Been before and not a lot to see IMO) Stayed in Madrid for two nights then headed south.
We then drove minor roads N401 and N420 to Cordoba and spent the night. Beautiful old city and visited the great Mosque and (especially) their evening gardens light display is a sight to behold. You could break this up on the way and see Toledo (we didnt have time).
Then on to Ronda via minor roads and then onto Conill de la Frontera for a few days. Lovely old fashioned Spanish seaside town with great big beaches.
If you do get there, whatever you do head for Vejer de la Frontera and have lunch or dinner here http://www.califavejer.com/restaurants-bars/el-jar... , absolutly beautiful and not silly money.
We then headed for a night in Sanlucar de Barrameda for a night (Great old town and lots of rustic sea food restaurants along the beach), then north via Merida (Saville is lovely but we've been before and again hadn't time this trip). Merida is a must if you ever get near there as the Roman ruins are absolutly amazing. Then on to Salamanca for the night, before bypassing Leon N621 heading for the Pictus de Europe (via Riana) back to Santander (via Unquera and Suances for the great sea views).
Pleaces we missed and wished we could have seen. Toledo .... One day I'l get there, Cadiz ........... again one day I'll get there.
If you want hotel suggestions for Madrid. Cordoba, Sancular, Conil, Salamanca or even Saville ..... no problem.
You know it makes sense
