Today I said goodbye to me beautiful 3200. I have never been so gutted about selling anything in my life. I know one thing and that is I will be back. I think I will give the new QP time to get to less than 40k. Seriously sad moping about in borrowed A3. Right I am looking to keep 10-12k of the 25K for the house. So what is it going to be. A nice combo in my head at the mo is 10k BMW 5 and 5K Triumph TR6.

Lets hear your suggestions, bearing in mind I do about 18K miles a year (which is the reason I sold the Mas so early)

As an aside I hope we can welcome Alex & Carole Young (Who Bought the car)and their son Jonathon (who races Seat Cupra Challenge cars) to the forum in the near future.

I fully intend to be a stowaway on thi sforum so dont tell everyone I sold it (Doh ! )

Cheers

Ian

Amost every time I sell one of my cars or bikes, I go through the same feelings.

Took an old Dino 308 GT4 down to a lock-up in London, which was going to a collector in Japan.

Backing it in and walking away was a really sad experience.

Look on the bright side, whatever you now buy - you will enjoy it and not be bothered about the miles that you are doing.

Sorry to hear of your sale Ian.
But a good idea to put money into the house.

Your head must be telling you that cars loose money and you house will eventually make you money. but..

I guess your heart tells you not to sell her.

Its a car that does provoke passion otherwise why buy her.
Dont be too sad , 6 month to a year goes quick and the prices of all cars will drop so you would be back in the driving seat sooner than you may think.
Are you needing two cars becuase the balance of your funds car still buy you some outstanding cars !
not sure of the prices myself but TVR's Cerb's can be bought for £15,000 but there may be problems with them at this price.
Perhaps a BMW M3 ?
or Lotus Elise ?
TVR would be a good track / day to day car and give you the thrill still.

whats your thoughts on these cars ?

Depends what you need from your replacement car(s): are you trying to reduce running costs for your 18K a year, or just free up some of the capital that was in your Maser?

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this might be a suitable candidate.

It's fast, spacious, comfortable, over-engineered and is a 'modern classic' that is unlikely to depreciate any more. It will, though, need servicing every 10K miles and will make Oliver Reed look like a teetotal with the rate at which fuel will be consumed.

2 cars are not important. I just thought sensible BMW 5 series for work and a 5k toy. The sale was more due to running costs and feeling guilty every time I drove it, the car needs a 5000 miles a year driver really. The remaining cash is a token effort at the house which I have already spent 100 k on. She is keen on A swimming pool and 15k should get it built.
I have always had triumphs so a tr6 or tr4 as a weekender would suit me. I have seen a few sub 10k 530 deisels which will alos save me up to 2/3 on the masers fuel costs.

Start taking bets now on how long I can last without getting another.

Ian,

Shame you had to sell - it certainly looked a lovely motor from the pictures you sent me a few weeks ago. But it seems like you got a reasonable price for it which is something at least.

I think the XJR (older shape) is a lot of car for the money and can do the miles if you can stand the running costs.

Steve.

Agreed Tvr do have a rep for developing faults but they look great !
Some people live with that - Me personally I couldnt and thats why I bought the 3200 instead of the Cerbera.
I do know of people though who have been lucky and have had a trouble free time with their tvr's though.

Without doubt though , they are great looking cars .

For an everyday car for work I would want to achieve at least 25mpg so some Uber-Barges such as XJ, A6, A8, S-class,and 5 & 7 series are all in there. Did see a lovely Volvo C70 T5 convertible(which go very nicely as I have driven a couple of the T5's)which does seem to tick a number of boxes as a nice motorway cruiser and also top down summer motoring with 4 seats. I am sure this will be a short term appointment so resale is an issue. I may even look at somethin safe and new. Got a spinning head thinking about it now.

BTW I am STILL!! gutted. Got up this morning and it wasn't in the drive
