Hello,

I'm looking to buy a 993 - probably a late model (1996). How important is having a FPSH as opposed to having a FSH from third party garages (albeit Porsche specialists).

Has anyone dealt with Charles Ivey in Fulham ? Any experiences ?

I have not!!!! dealt with him on several occasions. Read into that what you will.

If you are London based I would use, in this order:

OPC,
Paragon,
Cridfords,

They are not the cheapest, but very good value for money, i.e. they only sell honest cars and all have great after sales service.

Happy hunting...

If the car is a 1996 model, I wouldn't be too fussed about FPSH vs FSH. People buying cars over 5 years tend to be enthusiasts who have done their research, and will know that an Autofarm or JZ Machtech stamp is every bit as good (if not better) than one from AFN.

FPSH is important on new, one owner, cars where any little thing can cause depreciation. A FPSH also improves trade-in opportunities. If I had a brand new 996 turbo I would probably get it done at AFN, but my second hand 964 RS is more than happy in the capable hands of specialists.

Domster, I think enlightened owners or potential owners think the same as you. The only problem is many specialists offer a menu service and far too many owners only have done what is on the menu service shedule and nothing else that may need attention. Some of these menu services are ridiculously cheap and are often done by apprentices in a hurry and too busy listening to Radio 1 to even inform the owner about this, or if he/she is informed they can decline the extra work, as after all it does have a FSH and he/she is selling it soon... so often full FSH cars are in a right old state as so many problems have not been attended too.

For newer porker owners it is certainly worth checking out an OPC for pricing as often specialists don't under cut them by too much on certain models & for older cars in slack times they are sometimes doing deals on older car servicing. (admitidly this is not usually an option in the london area as the dealers are always jam packed with new car servicing)
