Has anyone tried or had any experience of one of these;

http://bamboobicycleclub.org/

I really fancy one (just to be different) and although I doubt it'll be in the same league as a CF Cannondale Scalpel I would like it to be ride able.

OK as a general "knock about" bike.

You have the same Xmas present list as me. It was prompted after seeing a professionally built bike at this years York Cycle event - and it was someone from York who had built it - stunning quality.

Not seen one of the 'home made' bikes in the flesh - just online photos with variable levels of finish. The quality of the binding around the joints does seem to vary probably mostly dependant on the ability of the assembler. And where DIY is concerned I'm sadly at the amateur side of the spectrum. Some however have looked quite good - depends on how much you want to spend on finishing kit.

They appear to be very usable bikes, but not something you would abuse and leave outside in the open elements if you want it to last. And the support with the build kit looks quite good.

No, but I really want one. However it would have to be properly laquered bamboo and properly wrapped and laquered CF butting, which I don't stand a chance at, but I want one.

Decision made. I posted my letter to Mr. Christmas this morning asking for one.

Deciding on spec but probably 29" MTB, big tyres, 1 x 10.

Bamboo fat bike would be very cool.

OP are you building it yourself? If so do a build diary I'm sure a lot in this forum would like to read it.

Likewise. I was just deliberating whether this would make a winter project. The only concern I have is the sustaining smell of epoxy resin in the house. They do write that it's workable in 24 hours, so presumably the smell is mostly faded after then.

My only other thought was the colouring of the joints. Is that paint? or a dye added to the resin.

Yup, that's the plan. I will start a thread and document it.

My plan was to build on the dining room table, I figure keeping all the windows and French doors open will reduce the smell.

Not sure about the colouring, I'll ask them along with some of my other questions.

Is this the start of the official ''Show Us Your Bamboo Bike Build''

Dining Table - evict cats.
Kitchen Table - I need to eat and its not that large.
Single garage - One large estate car - one scooter - four bikes already.

Next door neighbours garage - sorted.

What to order ?

I do like the idea of a road bike with black bonds, ultegra groupset and some nice leather tape.
