One of the things I miss about this forum - that most other forums have - is a signature below the post with the poster's car/s listed.

I often don't remember what models some people have now without going to the Garage section.

Since there doesn't seem to be a workaround, I'm using my text expander program to place a sig under every post I make from now on.

It would be great if everyone did this, and it would be especially helpful for new posters.

ETA

Sorry, but sigs are not allowed.

I wouldn't want you to know, what my winter daily driver is.
It just refuses to wear out.

Why? It's covered in one's profile if you're that interested assuming the poster has bothered to fill it in. In the early days Pistonheads went through the all questions about avatars, sigs and other claptrap and rejected it all to remain a clean simple forum. smile

I have always liked the clean look of pistonheads. On other forums they are messy and hard to read, with lots of shorthand which only makes sense if know. Besides what would you put?

TadekV85.3BoschFI2.88whizzbang for my old DBS V8
GlfMk6TSI6sp for the Golf. etc etc

I don't mind sigs. And on one make forums it's fine, although long sigs can take up too much screen room and pics can be distracting or simply too loud if you are browsing discreetly.

But worst of all, on a forum like PH, it would just be a case of willy waving.

Sorry, but this subject has been raised many times in the past even when Ted owned the site.

They have never been allowed as it was deeemed then as it is now it just makes the posts/threads look untidy.

Also covered at the same time were avitars, these were also declined.

At one point a few years ago I'd owned more cars than my age (20 - something)... that'd be a ste signature smile

Just the Aston/s we own now. I see it as a reference point for discussion. If someone talks about their Vanquish - as happened a short while ago, it would have been interesting to know it was an S. I would have replied in quite a different way knowing that many improvements had been made between mine and theirs.

ETA

Sorry, sigs are not allowed.

Interesting responses. I certainly didn't expect any of these.

All I am suggesting is that we put our current Aston in a signature. I've put a sold list of my previous Astons because I believe the history shows I'm an enthusiast of the brand (though it would probably be a retrograde step if I owned a Cygnet).

After all, we're here because of our passion for this unique brand - why hide our ownership?

I don't see anything in the T&C that stops us.

ETA

Sorry, but if you leave a signature on any post it will get removed by routine when seen or reported.

Not all of our rules are written, they are currently under review and hopefully from all our points of view and for clarity, unwritten rules will be a thing of the past.

Can you explain what you mean? I hope it's not an accusation directed at me.
