Help people. At the moment I've got a modded integrale, the car is very very quick with excellent handling (more details in profile).

The thing is, I've seen a gorgeous Ducati 916, ported, flowed and polished head, carbon cans, ECU upgrade etc etc. I can't afford to run both (I'm only a young un ) Should I sell the grale for a truly gorgeous 916? It should be a much bigger thrill, but not when it rains. It would also mean using a numptyesque car as a daily driver. Any help/info/views appreciated.

Cheers,

John

I can perfectly understand why you want a 916. I assume you have a bike licence. What about getting a cheapo Fireblade £3k ish for two wheeled fun? and keep the Integrale.

I was in a similar posotion a couple of years ago

I bought a ZX6R and an MR2, done track days in both. My logic, whatever you get you'll want something faster the ZX6 does 160 (and if far better than me when it comes to track prowess) and I didn't look a tt turning up at the golf club in an MR2 (holds two sets of clubs in the boot, more practical than you'd think) unlike if I turned up in a micra "ermmm it's my wifes, etc".

Would you really be OK driving a numpty car ??

Life is too short for dull motors

Good call, or a CBR6 or a ZX6R, or if it's just grunt you want V-max is surely the way forward

There is just something about 916's though, I see them as something as a two wheeled Ferrari, and unfortunately I'm not in a posistion to buy the four wheeled variety at the moment. I suppose I could compromise but I think rather than do that I would rather have one that is very quick and gorgeous (yes, I think my grale is gorgeous ). Not sure how well I'd cope driving a numpty car, but then I would only be doing that to work, when it was raining, maybe, oh I'm not sure. But this 916 is just lovely.

Just have a quick look at the link, it's a 996 but just look at it

My vote says 996, but remember it's a long time between November and March and you wouldn't be wanting to use something like that all year....Your call

What about insurance for the 916 esp as its modded. You have about 10 weeks max of biking season left this year. Will you ride it much in the winter? when its colder tyres don't warm up so much so you can't push it etc. Its dark when you get in from work too so that leaves weekends only for real fun. what about, keep the Evo til spring then get a 916, so you have the whole summer to enjoy it.

That could be an idea Dan. The grale is a good winter fun car That agusta, I'm going looking at one tonight The shop near me has got a red and white one in with chrome bits all about the place. I'm expecting that I will like it very much, but it is nearly 10k, and that is a lot for a bike, too much in fact. But I still want a peek at the thing

Moleamol, if you get a test ride I'd be interested to know what you thought as I may be in the market for one next year, apparently the handling is sublime...yup they are a bit expensive and known for their running costs but they are just gorgeous. Theres a one litre conversion available which increases the poke factor too, costs £3k I think.

Have you checked cost of ins? I looked at getting a 916 a couple of years ago and was quoted £2k, whereas a 748 was only £400. Funnily enough I didn't go for it.

996 standard not 916 modded, owned both raced one go for the 996.
Easier to insure, cheaper to fix (relatively) easier to sell, probably quicker.
My 916 would struggle past 145 my 996 kept going well past there.
oh shite i want a bike again now, thats your fault ya bastard!
just had a top idea, keep the grale and loan yourself right up to the neck and get the 996 as well screw it you only live once. insure the bike through saxon (london) worlds cheapest.

Bet you didn't know they did track days either

So what would your choice be Criteria (4 years ago)

500 miles a week, and have to get there
<£5k
boot at least as big as the MR2

Preferred
Two seats
Rear wheel drive
(V8 British etc)

I don't reckon you could do better than the MR2 2.0 GT (MK II)

Anyway I've got a TVR now, in blue just like my rinses (and I only use the hairdryer for curing fibreglass)

Funky, sorry about that mate . Is that right about the 996? What about the handling? I suppose there isn't really that much difference as you would notice? After the insurance comment I'm a bit worried about the price of a 996, maybe I might even end up with a 748 . That 996 I posted the link for is pretty minxy though. Why would you not recommend a modded 916? Not sure about the loans idea, though tempted I must admit

Dan, couldn't test the agusta, it was still being prepped. I was asking the chap about it and he says that the engine feels like a race bike, very cammy. Not really a bike to pootle round on by the sounds of things. You should have seen it though, absolutely gorgeous. I was out the back of the shop, the wheels were red but the rims very highly polished. All metal bits had been polished to perfection. It really was very nice, and I want it
