Having cleared the garage of the fulvia and currently removing all rest of junk, there is now space for the next project.

Convert Tuscan Racer into road legal car

Being an absolute novice - I was wondering whether anyone knew of any links to other websites giving details of such a project/pictures. Are there any build manuals?

I've done a search on the forums and had no joy.

Assistance awaited.

Thanks in advance.

PS if I have £15k to hand I'd be ringing Rod Barrett at Hawthornes a ring.

Richard Thorpe (RT Racing) in Sheffield is currently converting one for me and he did one for himself last year. Give him a call on 0114 281 7507.

Is your car the ex Mark Johnston/ex Nathan Freke car that was owned by Pete Osborne?

That one is good car, because Bert Taylor built it!

Indeed it is. CDL were local to me and it made the choice a lot easier

I believe it was originally Steve Hyde's car when he was run by Bert Taylor at WLA, before Bert set up CDL.
The last owner was Gareth Evans and he drove it at some Tuscan Challenge meetings in 2003. It was also driven by New Zealander Carl Hansen in the UK during 2003.

It is not the Steve Hyde car as both WLA cars were sold to Andy and Gary Britnell.

BigGee - do I take it that you don't currently have a Tuscan racer from which to start?

Yep.

Currently making a space in my garage to start the
project.

So will need to start from scratch. I'd like to see what kind/state of vehicles are out there and what prices people are looking for to sell.

Trouble is, the adverts on PH (I want the Rod Barrett one) are too much at present (unless Mrs Gee lets me remortgage!!!) and I don't know where else to look.

I've even thought of buying an S V8 and find a body to fit onto it!!!

It will all probably happen come Summer. I need to replace the whole garage roof (30 ft * 20ft) since it's a bit damp at moment due to recent weather, and I aint starting that until the weather starts drying things out.

So tubular chassis with body and then I can add to that?

Need assistance and advice.

Thanks

Hugh is correct, Steve Hyde ran it prior to Gareth, in 2000/1 I think. I saw Steve about a year ago and he confirmed this. Anyhow, it's pretty academic because it's had a complete nut & bolt strip down and I'll be using it to terrorise fellow motorists on the M11 rather than anyone on a race track this year

Hi Andy, I've quoted you instead of BigGee for a reason, You will notice from his post that although he would like to buy my car, his wife will kill him if he re-mortgages to do it, she's right by the way BigGee, no car is worth a lifetime of nagging and misery mind you ,one of these comes close !!!!!

Andy, couldn't you sell him the 2nd chassis and a load of bits, odds and sods that you have, hell, it's nearly a full car bar a few wheels and things. This way he could afford to start the project, and over say a 2 year period,(to spread the costs) he could, after many hours of blood sweat and tears and heartache, and having emptied his wallet and piggy bank, have something that looks a little like my one

You know what BigGee,on thinking further about it, leave the wife, sell the house, buy my car and save youeself 2 years of grief

Thanks chaps.

I've got a couple of months before I actually get down to business and seriously talk to people (like you lot (ie keep it in the PH family))about buying one, so expect movement then.

In the meantime, PH'ers who have road legal versions,
possibly expect contact from me(and my boy aged 6(or is that my age)) begging for a look.

Kind Regards

Graham

I have a spare chassis (totally straight), bodyshell and most of the components to build a car, in addition to my main race car.

Happy to talk - e mail me via my profile if you want to.

Graham - I'm going to be moving house at the beginning of May, so if I am going to sell my spares package I would want to do it before then. Contact me whenever you are ready though.
