Roughly - how much would you think please, for a full clutch fitted (by an independent) to a 1998 996 - I will likely go for a full clutch kit with a new slave cylinder as well (as it creaked before) assuming its easier to fit the slave when the engines out?

Is there anything else I should have checked when the engines out please?

Thanks

Cost me about £700 from memory, that didn't include the DMF which may be Worth changing while you're in there. Also worth considering an IMS bearing swap or upgrade, yours is probably the more reliable dual row though.

Is it worth budgetting for a new DMF at the same time? I think the part cost is similar to the clutch.

The prices I've had quoted for an ims bearing "and the clutch while we're there" are £1400-£1500. I guess if you don't want the bearing done, you can deduct the parts cost from that. Dmf can be tested once removed and is about £400 I believe.
By the way they'll do it by dropping the box rather than the engine.

Clutch change is a great time to check/upgrade/replace the IMS Bearing.

£700 - could be worse I guess. Cost my £400 for a discovery clutch last year

So, what are these additional parts please - I am guessing IMS is Intermediate shaft? What's a DFM please?

IMS is Intermeidate Main Shaft but is actually referring to the bearing. DMF is the Dual Mass Flywheel.

Thank you for the explanations - is the dual mass flywheel the flywheel on the crank that the clutch is bolted too - or is there a second flywheel.

I notice the clutch spigot bearing is part of the flywheel, so if that needs replacing its a whole flywheel?

It's just the normal flywheel. I'm afraid i have no idea on the second question though.
