I'm heading up the M1 to Silverstone at the weekend and being a first timer there wondered if any of you regulars could shed any light on the place for me.

Basically I would like to know where the best places to watch from are so that I don't miss out on any of the action. Also, are you limited to stands/viewing areas or do you get free roam of the place like Brands and Snetterton??

Depends on the event - but you usually have to pay to get into the grandstands with seats. A good place to sit is in the Grandstand that overlooks the complex from Bridge right round to Woodcote (or Club straight to Woodcote if the national circuit is being used) This is accessed from left hand end of paddock (next to the posh BRDA stand). Also, you can take pics from there without the basted fences getting in the way. I was there a couple of weeks ago at a fairly 'low key' event and it was £5 to get into that grandstand, (you can come and go as you please throught the day)

Best place is the stand overlooking the last corner before the start/finish straight I think - can see most of the circuit from there.

If its the Silverstone Classic you're going along to see, the programme is;

Looking at that timetable I might just go there instead of Oulton!

My fave spot is at the end of the start/finish straight, by the first bend, here you get to see cars/bikes going from flat out to hard braking and taking the bend, sometimes crashes as its the first bend off the line. The Grandstand at Woodcote is good if you want to see more of the track....Also I would advise getting tickets in advance where possible, as usually the ticket includes grandstand entry, whereas on the day you'll have to pay an additional £5 minimum on top of entry ticket.

Should be a good weekend of racing, am off there too. The Historic Touring Cars are the ones too watch, Big british beef (MK1 Jags) with lots of power and no grip vs mini's and alike with too much grip and not a lot of power - makes for some good racing!

Last time I was there for a historic event, the BRDC Grandstand was open to the public- if you can get on there it is without doubt the best place to watch

AndyW you old dog. Thought You'd given up coming in here since you sold the Grif.

...Did I see anything good? A few blokes who should have been old enough to know better giving it large on the corners
