hi guys,

is a F355 manual feasible as an everyday car.
whats it like to drive in stop start traffic?

is it very difficult to drive? are track days recommended to learn how to handle it properly.

advice much appreciated.

I drive mine *nearly* everyday and it's no trouble at all.

Stop-start traffic is no problem as all the controls are very light and easy to live with.

The things that I've found have become awkward after a while when using it every day is parking and leaving it anywhere 'safe', the wide sill that you have to clamber over to get in or out, the wear that'll appear on the drivers seat/handbrake area, the stonechips you'll get from using it and the 'attention' these cars receive.

Sometimes its great to get the attention but if you really do use it everyday, you may find that people staring at you are a bit much when you're having a bad day etc and just want to get from A to B without fuss.

The only things I've come to "dislike" on mine over the last year is the steering not being quick enough (too many turns lock to lock) and the pedal position.

The steering is fine in normal use but if you have to make quick, sharp adjustments to your line, it just seems like you have to turn the wheel too far.

The brake posistion can be awkward as well if you need to brake hard and in a hurry as it's very easy to push the accellerator at the same time, but it's something you eventually get used to. The brake pedal could do with being 3/4 of an inch higher to be able to get on it quickly with confidence.

Overall though, pick the right car and you shouldnt have any probs

The last time I owned a 355, I used it every day and did about 15,000 miles a year. The car was more positive for the continued use (IMHO) but the servicing was proportionately larger (but not ridiculous). It never failed to start and never broke down.

I agree with nearly everything jjustin says. However, I had no problem with the brakes or steering.

However, I would recommend the manual over the F1, especially if you are doing a lot of town driving. Others will disagree, but I found the F1 in the 355 (maybe just my car?) a terrible experience in traffic - especially stop-start traffic round town.
