I have an animal watch that was given to me by my father.

It is a quartz movement with a small LCD multifunction screen.

I have replaced the battery with the same that was in there but it doesn't seem to have enough power to move the hands, the second had looks like it is trying to tick but struggling. The LCD display does work though.

I know it had a battery replaced at Timpsons when the original one ran out but it never worked for very long after. (This information was from my farther not from my experience)

Is it possible that they fitted an incorrect battery and therefore I have also done the same or does this sound more like a mechanical fault?

Its not a fancy or expensive watch but does have sentimental value so I would very much like it to work instead of being sat in my watch box.

Thanks

See if Timpsons can replace it again. They will likely not charge you if the battery doesn't make any difference. It could be that the movement is damaged somehow.

Worst case you can get a new movement for a few quid - did that with an old Casio I had - standard Mioyita movement from, I think, Cousins set be back about £6

Pull the back off and have a look for any identifying numbers or names.

Or post some pics on here if it's not obvious.

How do you find someone who can replace the movement especially if it has hands?

Agreed, and a little sad that the surf fashion industry are giving more honest service on watches than much of the watch industry!

Bargain !

They're good too - sent my aged Animal watch back to them for a new glass and battery change, and they turned it around really quickly.

We actually have someone who comes to our office every couple of weeks to do watch battery changes, etc., so I got him to do it. But there are still watch repairers out there, though admittedly they're getting harder to find.
